That's a good signing for Middlesbrough if they do get Richie de Laet. He's a good, solid defender - I'm surprised Leicester are letting him go. Or maybe they've got something up their sleeve themselves?

De Laet, by the way, already appears to have played enough for the Foxes this season to qualify for a league winners' medal...

Neither club has confirmed this one yet, but BBC Wiltshire are reporting that Swindon striker Michael Smith is on his way to League Two Portsmouth.

The 24-year-old forward spent three months on loan at Barnsley earlier this season, but failed to score in 13 appearances.

    Stevenage

Stevenage have signed striker Patrick Hoban from League Two rivals Oxford United on a one-month loan deal.

The 24-year-old has been a regular for the U's this season, making 33 appearances, but he's found the net just five times.

This is one man who does not like the transfer window - nor does his wife.

Cheltenham manager Gary Johnson admits the window turns him into an "ogre" and his wife "deserves a medal" for putting up with him.

Johnson has been a manager for nearly 30 years and says January is the most stressful month of the year.

"My wife swears in January she is going to go away for a month as she says I change," said Johnson.

"It's so true, the transfer window does make an ogre of you. You are definitely not the same person."

Want to know more about Everton target Oumar Niasse? Here's a nice tale...

Former Reading and Senegal player Ibrahima Sonko has revealed he paid for the plane ticket for Niasse to get his big break in Europe.

Sonko spotted the 25-year-old back in Senegal and paid all his expenses to sign for his club at the time, Turkish Super Lig side Akhisarspor. He then went on to move to Russia.

"I saw Oumar play for the Under-23 Senegal team. He was so fast, up and down the pitch even though he was playing up front," Sonko told BBC World Service.

"I went back to Turkey and had a word with my manager. He said to me "it's your call, we don't know the boy". I said listen I'm so sure, I'll pay for everything and if he signs the only thing I ask for you is you pay me back for his ticket."

"England was his dream, he works his socks off on the pitch. He's not an individual player, he's always thinking about the team," said Sonko of Niasse.

  11. Elliott backs top-four Foxes finishpublished at 16:36 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2016

    Leicester City

We couldn't sit down and chew the fat with former Leicester skipper Matt Elliott earlier today without asking him about the Foxes' title chances. The ex-Scotland defender is not blinded by loyalty though, reckoning they will miss out on the top prize. However....

“I have to say that, yes, Leicester will go on to finish in the top four," he says.

"They have a 10-point advantage of fifth-placed Manchester United and OK it is Manchester United who are capable of putting together a run.

"But 10 points is a big gap to close over a 15-game period. Statistically history suggests Leicester will finish in the top four and that will be a marvellous achievement."

  14. Eyes down Liverpool & Newcastle fanspublished at 16:31 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2016

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

"Liverpool were not expecting any deadline day outgoings but that has changed in the last couple of hours with an approach from Newcastle United for outcast defender Jose Enrique.

"The 30-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and is on a reported £65,000-a-week. Liverpool are more than happy to let the Spaniard return to the club he left in summer 2011 in a £6m move.

"The question now is whether he can be persuaded to move to Newcastle rather than keeping his options open by waiting until the summer."

  17. 'Stoke eye record deal'published at 16:28 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2016

    Ian Dennis
BBC Radio 5 live senior football reporter

"Every club wanted Pep Guardiola. He will deliver what City want – taking them to the next level. They are a force in England. They want to be a force in Europe.

"Elsewhere, it has been a very quiet deadline day. Newcastle had a £21m bid for West Brom's Saido Berahino rejected yesterday.

"Tottenham were keeping across it, Stoke had a watching brief, but Newcastle were the only bid and that was turned down. Stoke hope for a record deal for Giannelli Imbula. That would beat the price of the deal they did over the summer for Xherdan Shaqiri."

  18. 'Man City want to move to the next level'published at 16:27 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2016

    Ian Dennis
BBC Radio 5 live senior football reporter

"It is not a surprise that it [Pep Guardiola replacing Manuel Pellegrini at Manchester City next season] has been announced but the timing is a surprise.

"They will have learnt lessons from the past, particularly the way they handled the departure of Mark Hughes.

"Manuel Pellegrini was first of all informed by the hierarchy at the club. As City say, by doing it now, it removes that unnecessary speculation. We all knew it was going to happen because of the connections between Guardiola and senior figures at the club."

  20. 'Guardiola will be a big asset'published at 16:24 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2016

Guardiola to become new Man City boss

    Peter Reid
Former Manchester City and Sunderland manager

"I think he will be a big asset. No disrespect to Manuel Pellegrini, who has done a good job job. It is accepted in European football that coaches move clubs and that the news is out in the public domain. But really Pellegrini has been keeping his seat warm, again without being disrespectful.

"Anybody who looks at City now, the training complex is one of the best as is the stadium and they have world class players. United, Chelsea and the big clubs would love this guy so City have done great business.

"I have nothing but admiration for Pellegrini. This could still be a really successful season for him and Manchester City. Knowing the club how I do, Mr Pellegrini will have been kept up to date. They will have done it right."
