Here's Jamie Vardy. The Leicester striker has 20 minutes to make an impact, coming on for Danny Welbeck. Roy Hodgson throws a double with the tactical dice, Ross Barkley also having the chance to impress.

The Everton midfielder comes on for Adam Lallana, going into the hole behind Harry Kane with Dele Alli shifting out left.

"Wonderful attacking from England. You think that is the sort of play Germany would have. There is an opportunity here let's just keep going and keep playing."

  5. GREAT SAVE!published at 69 mins

    Germany 2-1 England

England almost bag the equaliser! Only Manuel Neuer's big size 10 boot stops Dele Alli's low shot from the left nestling in the bottom corner of his net.

Wonderful, flowing move from the visitors set up that chance. Ali started it all on the left touchline, with Harry Kane, Danny Welbeck and Adam Lallana all involved. Slick stuff.

Harry Kane looks a natural fit on the international stage - and that turn and strike proved his class again.

If two players have played their way right to the front of the queue to start England's first game in Euro 2016 then they are Kane and his Spurs' team-mate Dele Alli.

England corner. Danny Rose slopes forward down the left flank, his delivery forcing Jonas Hector into a panicked clearance. But the set-piece is poor and the home side get themselves off the hook (or rather are let off it).

Pete: I'd rather watch England play like this and lose, than how they normally play, when they lose anyway.

Scott Baird: Great finish kane, stayed on his feet when he could of gone down too. And great skill from alli in the build up.

Phil Cartwright: How fitting that this week, of all weeks, Kane does his man with a cheeky Cruyff turn and then buries it in the bottom corner

"It has got to be a world class strike to beat Neuer and it certainly was. Now we have got a game on our hands."

    Harry Kane

Game over? No chance! England are back in this match within three minutes of Germany's second.

And it is a thing of beauty from Harry Kane. The England striker produces a neat Cruyff turn (well somebody had to do one in tribute to the great Dutchman) to give himself space in the right channel of the home box...then bang!

Drilled into the bottom far corner. How many times have we seen that sort of finish from the Spurs man!

Tom Wrathmell: Dele Alli looking the best player on the park tonight. Some quality touches and looks totally assured, as opposed to Lallana

Chris Mitchell: Our final ball is so so disappointing. No class and no composure. Still, as long as Alli is on the pitch we gave a chance

Theo Bowyer: If Delle Alli doesn't start against Russia at Euro 2016 then I'll eat my hat... Mind you I'll have to buy one first.

"Was that justice for the goal that was disallowed in the first half? That is England's Achilles heel, the position between centre back and right back. It was a lovely ball in and a simple header to guide the ball in.

"The perfect header from the perfect cross.

"That was how England were conceding goals in the World Cup."

England punished. Here's why you have to snaffle those opportunities that fall your way. A moment of quality doubles the German lead.

Sami Khedira's deft chipped pass takes out the England defence, Mario Gomez getting goal-side of Nathaniel Clyne to power a header into the top corner.

    Game over. Probably.

"Eng-er-land, En-ger-land, En-GER-LAND!" The away fans find their voice, their team finding their rhythm. Danny Welbeck picks Emre Can's back pocket on the left byeline, pulling back to Jordan Henderson. Hit the target! He tries with a placed effort, but only finds the backside of Germany left-back Jonas Hector.

Coulda, should, woulda been a goal. Got to take your chances against Germany!
