"Dele Alli has been so impressive. He has adjusted to the top flight and now to international football. He looks a certainty to be in that squad to France."

    Germany 1-0 England

Dele Alli continues to shine for England. He had better cool it - otherwise the whole of Europe will know about him ahead of the Euros. The not-so-surprise package drives forward again, shooting low from distance. Germany keeper Manuel Neuer pushes out wide, away from a sniffing Danny Welbeck.

"What a free kick from Reus. Forster showed great concentration. How big is Fraser Forster? He had to use every inch of that frame to get across."

German free-kick on the left flank, the big lads from the back trot up. Marco Reus arcs in a delicious delivery that bounces all the way through. Fraser Forster need to be alert to push it over his bar.

Stick or twist for England then? Sticking at the moment. The visitors are staying compact and disciplined, trying to hustle the German midfield at every opportunity.

"The front three have worked really hard. For 40 minutes England can take a lot of positivity out of it. They just lacked that quality in terms of a final product which they will hope to improve on."

  7. KICK-OFFpublished at 20:57 Greenwich Mean Time 26 March 2016

    Germany 1-0 England

Game on. England start things moving after half-time, go almost straight on the attack down the left through Danny Rose. However, the debutant can't pick out another red shirt and the chance disappears down the drain.

    Germany 1-0 England

The England players are just trotting back out of the Berlin tunnel. Same XI that ended the first half, Fraser Forster already on for the injured Jack Butland of course.

Germany make one half-time change, Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah coming on for his international debut in place of Mats Hummels.

Daniel Woodley: A front four of Alli, Kane, Vardy and Welbeck needs to be seen tonight! Make it happen Roy!

Dan Bell: It's Vardy time. Get Lallana off.

Matthew Harris: "Getting injured wrong" is a goalkeeping howler now. No wonder Ben Foster retired at 28.

  10. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:52

    Germany 1-0 England

What do the England subs get up to at half-time? Playing paper, scissors, stone. Kyle Walker and Ross Barkley enjoy a quick game in the Olympiastadion. The prize for the winner is not going to fetch the balls...

  11. Vote closedpublished at 20:50 Greenwich Mean Time 26 March 2016

What sort of Euro 2016 side should England pick?

The vote has finished - and it was pretty close too.

In the end, almost 30% of you voted for Roy Hodgson to go all-out and pick a youthful starting XI for England's opening Euro 2016 game.

But 24% of you suggested a mixture of youth and experience and more than 20% of you also went for loading up with Spurs and Leicester players and, sadly, the opinion that it doesn't matter, the same old England will prevail anyway.

Less than 2% suggested Hodgson should stick with experience. Says it all really.

England threw away the lead and finished with 10 men but still maintained their unbeaten record in qualifying for the 2017 European U21 Championship with a draw against Switzerland in Thun.

Arsenal's Hull loanee Chuba Akpom put the visitors ahead before Florian Kamberi equalised.

Gareth Southgate's side remain top of Group nine with three games left to play. You can read the full report on the game here.

  13. Alli making a big impressionpublished at 20:49 Greenwich Mean Time 26 March 2016

    Germany 1-0 England

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at The Olympiastadion, Berlin

Tottenham's Dele Alli claimed many of the pre-match headlines as talk turned to him developing into a player who might eventually bear comparison with former England captain Bryan Robson.

He is doing very well on his own merits tonight getting forward in support of Harry Kane, working back to help in defensive areas and also rolling neatly away from Toni Kroos and Thomas Muller in one movement.

A top player in the making,

Andrew Bedford: Same old England. Absolutely no technique or composure. Can't press properly. Very little quality

Siobhan Gallagher: Game over then. Hodgson came here to get a 0-0 draw and won't change it up to an attacking formation.

Tim Bloyce: Gutted for Jack Butland. Top keeper who didn't deserve that

Chipperhull: Surely Kroos should have kicked the ball away there with Butland injured ? Or that's what he was trying to do and it flew in.

Dele Alli has probably been the best player on the pitch. That's what Germany's former World Cup-winning captain Lothar Matthaus, working as a pundit for ITV, reckons. High praise indeed...

"Take Toni Kroos out of that Germany team and they have been absolutely woeful.

"I would just like to see Harry Kane play on the centre halves and get Dele Alli onto Kroos because when we stop him playing they haven’t got anyone else."

  17. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:46 Greenwich Mean Time 26 March 2016

    Germany 1-0 England

    Terry Butcher
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

"I don’t think that really alters Roy Hodgson’s team talk. We can feel aggrieved to concede that goal but we have done nothing wrong in terms of defending, shape and organisation. If there is a fault, it is not turning good possession into shots and making Manuel Neuer work.

"What England don’t want to do is concede another goal and then it is doom and gloom but I have been encouraged by England’s performance."

  18. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:45

    Germany 1-0 England

Just been watching replays of that Jack Butland injury...he really should have booted the ball out into touch and gone down straight away. The England keeper tried to bravely battle on, but has ended up costing his team the opening goal. Harsh lesson learned.

  20. England end on a sour notepublished at 20:42 Greenwich Mean Time 26 March 2016

    Germany 1-0 England

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at the Oympiastadion, Berling

There was much to like about England first half display but it has ended on a very sour note with the injury to keeper Jack Butland contributing to his mistake for Toni Kroos' goal.

Sad sight to see the Stoke City keeper being taken off on a stretcher and away from the stadium.
