    Germany v England (19:45 GMT)

England's official Twitter account posts highlights of their 2-1 win against Germany in 2008.

Germany replies with a reminder that they thrashed England at the 2010 World Cup.

England's response? A GIF of a bored-looking Ben Stiller sarcastically clapping in Zoolander.

What a world we live in...

  3. Hodgson experiments for Eurospublished at 19:24 Greenwich Mean Time 26 March 2016

    Germany v England (19:45 GMT)

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at The Olympiastadion, Berlin

A search of social media uncovers the usual complaints about England manager Roy Hodgson's team selection - but it has always been clear what his plan was.

Here in Berlin, he has given the likes of Stoke City keeper Jack Butland his chance while using Spurs' Eric Dier and Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson in midfield. Danny Welbeck is reintegrated in attack after a year out.

We are sure to see Leicester City pair Jamie Vardy and Danny Drinkwater, as well as Everton's Ross Barkley and Southampton keeper Fraser Forster, against the Netherlands at Wembley on Tuesday.

    Seems quite straightforward really.

Mark Jackson: I guess Andy Ward, Blyth, Northumberland hasn't been to WHL this season to see Alli & THFC play

Luke: Welbeck is an obvious choice, he will start in the summer. Best England player in qualifying by far and on fire for Arsenal.

  5. 'Low just being nice to England'published at 19:22 Greenwich Mean Time 26 March 2016

    Germany v England (19:45 GMT)

Germany gaffer Joachim Low also claims that England can win this summer's European Championships. Hmmm. Is he being truthful or just paying lip service to tonight's visitors?

"No I don’t think he's being truthful," says former England captain Terry Butcher on 5 live. "I think Joachim Low was just being nice, I think it is spin.

"He has got a lot of respect for England and it is interesting to know how many he would take from the England squad to the German one."

  6. Hodgson has improved England - Lowpublished at 19:19

    Germany v England (19:45 GMT)

When a World Cup-winning coach speaks, one tends to listen. And Germany gaffer Joachim Low offers a view that some (not all) England fans might be surprised to hear...

"England has improved a lot recently, due to the coach Roy Hodgson — he had a big impact on the team," reckons the mastermind behind Germany's 2014 world dominance.

"I have known him for some time, also from when he managed Switzerland.

"The team has always been well co-ordinated, it is difficult for us to play against them and they are really good on the counter-attack."

  7. England 'good enough' to face Germanypublished at 19:17 Greenwich Mean Time 26 March 2016

    Germany v England (19:45 GMT)

No Wayne Rooney. No Joe Hart. No Raheem Sterling. But England still have enough quality to give the Germans a game.

    Says who? Says Roy Hodgson.

"I'm confident that the team I've selected is a good team to take on the might of Germany," reckons the England manager.

    Greatest Germany v England moments

A game remembered for two things, Gazza's tears and the start of England's woeful penalty shootout record.

The 1990 World Cup in Italy captivated the nation but, after Gary Lineker cancelled out Andreas Brehme's opener, Chris Waddle and Stuart Pearce missed from the spot to break English hearts.

The Germans went on to beat Argentina in the final and win their third World Cup.

Regarding the England team that Hodgson has picked. It should be renamed London FC I'm appalled there is no room for Vardy. That man has been on fire this year and surely will help little Leicester win the title. Seriously surprised to see Danny Rose playing. He was poor at Sunderland and even worse when I've seen him at Spurs this season. Dele Alli yes - awesome quality player but for the Under-21s only. Needless to say we will be well beaten tonight. I can see 5-1 to Germany. It usually is and our defense is rubbish anyway - with Vardy not playing - Leicester will march on. Come on you Foxes. Watch history being made - live. Will be more exciting than tonight's impending massacre.

Gil Wadsworth: I wouldn't mind if this England XI is the one Roy picks in the summer.

Neil Harris: This Eng side is shocking, not a single member of the LCFC side in the starting XI. Time to stop the sponsors picking the team!

Beckwith: Did everyone forget Welbeck was our top scorer in qualifying? If anyone deserves to start, its him. He got us to France 16!

    Switzerland U21 0-1 England U21

We mentioned Demarai Gray had been hogging the limelight for England U21's and he's just helped put his side ahead against Switzerland in their Euro 2017 qualifier.

Gray surged forward on the right, pirouetted around two defenders and slid the ball across the box for Arsenal's Hull loanee Chuba Akpom to tap in. Lovely move from the Leicester youngster on his debut.

  12. Dutch game stopped for Cruyff tributepublished at 19:10 Greenwich Mean Time 26 March 2016

    Netherlands 2-3 France

The Netherlands' home friendly against France was stopped after 14 minutes for a minute's applause to remember Dutch great Johan Cruyff.

Former Ajax and Barcelona star Cruyff, who famously wore the number 14 shirt, died of cancer aged 68 on Thursday.

A minute's silence for the former Dutch captain and coach was planned, but the tribute turned into a standing ovation from fans at the Amsterdam Arena.

Blaise Matuidi, France's number 14, hit a late winner in the 3-2 away win.

It's quite rare that the entire football world unites in grief. But that tells you everything you need to know about the stature of Johan Cruyff.

England and Germany will be the latest nations to pay tribute to the Netherlands great who died of cancer aged 68 on Thursday.

Both teams will wear black armbands in his memory during tonight's match in Berlin.

    Trevor Sinclair
Former England winger on Football Focus

"Rooney would be in the squad for me but Kane has got to start for me if you are playing one through the middle. Vardy is very dangerous and Welbeck is getting back into form.

"For me Kane been something sensational, his goals, link up play, energy, I would put him in my team, first name on the team sheet."

Andy Horrill: This England starting XI is stinking. Lallana, Henderson and Welbeck seriously...lets be more adventurous.

Jimmy Hingley: It's disgraceful that Welbeck is playing over Vardy once again its a case of club over form.

Patrick Beaumont: Carrick, Henderson, Lallana, Townsend, Delph, Shelvey and Drinkwater stay at home.

  16. Drinkwater for the Euros?published at 19:05 Greenwich Mean Time 26 March 2016

    Germany v England (19:45 GMT)

    Sam Wallace
Chief football writer for The Daily and Sunday Telegraph on BBC Radio 5 Live

"I think Danny Drinkwater being selected in Roy Hodgson's final squad will be very close. A lot will have to do with Jack Wilshere, if he is fit or not. Obviously Drinkwater has got a chance because Hodgson is resistant to introduce players this late in a campaign."
