I was fortunate to see Pele play for Santos at Sheffield Wednesday in 1972. I'm now in London so imagine my horror to discover that my mum had cleared out my old room including my programme from that day..... So thankful my autographs came down South with me!

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at the Olympiastadion, Berlin

In the light of the attacks on Brussels last week, security at Berlin's Olympiastadion was at its height at the media entrance.

Full body searches and scans were in evidence as well as sniffer dogs on entry to the stadium. Passports or other photographic ID was also required to be produced,

Outside the fans are thronging in their thousands with the anticipation that always greets any game between Germany and England - even a friendly.

Gareth Southgate's England Under-21's go in level at half-time against Switzerland Under-21's in their Euro 2017 qualifier.

Leicester's Demarai Gray has looked a threat on his debut. John Swift and Ruben Loftus-Cheek both failed to convert Gray's crosses and the tricky winger then had a go on goal himself after a blistering run, only to be denied by the Swiss keeper.

The hosts' best effort came from Denis Zakaria, whose thunderbolt strike rattled the cross bar.

It could have all been different had referee Jorge Larrionda and his officials allowed Frank Lampard's strike just before half-time, but in truth England outclassed by the Germans at the 2010 World Cup.

Matthew Upson's header halved the first-half deficit, after goals from Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski, but a Thomas Muller double ended England's World Cup dream in humiliation in Bloemfontein.

Die Mannschaft fell at the semi-final stage against Spain but came back four years later to go all the way.

How British Euro 2016 rivals have fared

There's a smattering of other friendlies going on outside of Germany with the result in Russia the most significant to England.

Russia join England and Wales in Group B in this summer's European Championships and they have beaten Lithuania 3-0.

Elsewhere, despite no goals from Robert Lewandowski, Poland have beaten Finland 5-0. The Poles are, of course, in Northern Ireland's group.

Austria beat Albania 2-1, Kazakhstan beat Azerbaijan 1-0 while Croatia currently lead Hungary 1-0.

Only one place to start. Fifty years have passed but England have not come close to matching 30 July, 1966.

A game that had it all was won by Sir Geoff Hurst's hat-trick and featured one of the most controversial goals of all time.

Alf Ramsey, Bobby Charlton, Bobby Moore, names no England player or manager has come close to matching.
