  4. CLOSE!published at 16:12 British Summer Time 9 April 2016

    Swansea 1-0 Chelsea

Lovely play from Chelsea to open up the Swansea defence. Pedro finally comes to the party with a nice ball across the six-yard box, Alexandre Pato is on the end of the and only has to touch the ball into the net, but tries a clever flick which doesn't come off and the ball rolls wide.

Ah yeah, what was I saying about Southampton being on the back foot?More circus defending from Newcastle sees Sadio Mane latch on to a short corner and walk into the area, his cutback finds Graziano Pelle and while his shot is blocked, Victor Wanyama is able to hammer home.

Paul Watts-Othen: Villa almost certainly down now, tbf it's been a stay of execution since Dean Saunders left.

Robert Thompson: Now that we are pretty much 'officially' down, can we please start playing U21s!? This squad has no desire, no passion #avfc, external

Ross: If Villa played Newcastle I think they would both lose they are that bad, even though it's not possible.

  8. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 9 April 2016

    Swansea 1-0 Chelsea

Alexandre Pato rounds Lukasz Fabianski and has the ball in the net but the linesman frantically waves his flag and referee Andre Mariner rules the goal out.

The Brazilian is adjudged to have control the ball with his arm, but it looks like the top of the shoulder to me. Harsh decision.

    Garth Crooks

  11. CLOSE!published at 16:06 British Summer Time 9 April 2016

    Southampton 2-0 Newcastle

Former Newcastle keeper Fraser Forster almost helps his old side out with a hashed clearance straight to Moussa Sissoko but he's still a good 40 yards out - and he slices his shot wide. Newcastle need an early goal to get their show back on the road.

  12. Postpublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 9 April 2016

    Swansea 1-0 Chelsea

Chelsea have started the better in the first half, they are out of the traps like a greyhound.

The Blues force two corners in quick succession, but Swansea goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski is out early and confidently to pluck the ball out of the air and relieve the pressure on his defence.

    Excellent goalkeeping.

    Swansea 1-0 Chelsea

How good has Jefferson Montero been for Swansea so far? Well, just have a look at his heatmap compared to that of his opposite number, World Cup winner Pedro.

Montero (left) has been torching his way down the left flank, seeing plenty of the ball and regularly getting into advanced positions near the byline.

Pedro (right), by contrast, has been peripheral, with most of his few touches coming in his own half.

Mick the sad Geordie: I forecast the failure of Newcastle the day they appointed the wally with the brolly so its been a long and painful death.

Daniel Stokell: Maybe it's just better for Newcastle to be relegated after this poor performance they can go down and rebuild and potentially come back stronger.

Ken, Newcastle: I'd shed a tear if it wasn't for laughing at NUFC's defending. See ya Premier League. It's been painful.

"It's been pathetic. It's absolutely diabolical. Villa have put as team out there to contain. There's no goal threat or intent. In midfield they haven't got hold of the ball and have been sloppy.

"The fans wanted to see something and they have gone out there to try and sit back and hold on to a 0-0."
