Like all good pieces of art, Joe's questioning of the Premier League's quality at 20:17 continues to divide opinion.

I have to say I agree with Joe's point. Comparing the quality of sides in England and Spain isn't that simple. Very different styles of football played. While the quality of Spanish football or German football may appear better in their respective leagues, I think English teams are holding their own as well as ever in Europe.

    Ben, Hull

The Premier League does not lack in quality in any way. The problems we have are that it is the most physical and competitive league and yet they don't get a winter break. What league could ever have fourth placed team in the semi final of the CL and 8th placed in semi final of Europa League other than the PL?

Meanwhile, there is potentially significant news involving another north London club this evening, with Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere scoring his first goal in 11 months as he continues his comeback in the Arsenal U21 side.

Good news for the Gunners and for England.

Paul Bishop: how many Premier League players would make it in Europe? Kane, Mahrez, Kante, Payet, Ozil, Coutinho, De Bruyne, Aguero, Hart, De Gea ....

Paul Harris: Spurs are playing well, but the Stoke defending is making them look like Barcelona

Dele Alli holds off two men, a drag back and a flick and he's past a third. Right on the touchline. Lovely feet. Alli then finds Harry Kane in space and drags a shot wide from a tight angle. Spurs deserve a second.

    Stoke 0-1 Tottenham

This is as well as I have seen Spurs play all season - wonderful football in patches! Dele Alli finds a backheel in his top drawer of tricks to send Christian Eriksen screaming through the middle, he's in on goal, one on one, he sits Shay Given down but hits the crossbar!

He should score. Moments later Alli weaves past a defender to get another shot off but it's well blocked.

Stoke get a ball in behind for Marko Arnautovic to chase, he miscues his shot across goal with his first touch though and he has no friends in red and white stripes up with him to help out.

Harry Kane then ties Ryan Shawcross up in knots on the halfway line. Great touch and strength, does he have any weaknesses?

Xherdan Shaqiri nutmegs Jan Vertonghen with a silky turn but Spurs then counter - viciously. One pass is enough to send Kyle Walker motoring into space, he is so quick, he eats up the turf and he's one good cross away from a second goal. He just undercooks it and Shay Given is able to gather.

WOOOOSH! What a hit from Mousa Dembele, minimal backlift and maximum output. Wonderful hit from the Belgian but it flies a few feet above Shay Given's outstretched hand. He can't half hit a ball. Tonked.

Hands off in the area? That's a new approach. Not one you'll see many teams adopting, I wager!

Harry Kane is then taken out by Glenn Whelan on the break. Whelan was trying to get out of the way and Kane's fall annoys Mark Hughes somewhat.

    Can of worms. Opened.

    Re; Joe at 20:17...

Really don't get where you are coming from Joe... Best Premier League season ever in terms of intrigue and this Tottenham team has the potential to be great!

    Martyn, Essex

I agree with Joe. English football is certainly lacking in quality compared with what it used to be, from the 03/04 season to 08/09 a English team was always in the champions league semi final, and now we go crazy when one does in four years , but saying that you can't beat the premier league for entertainment .

    Jack

To counter Joe's comments, two sides from England are in the semi finals of the European competitions. One from Germany. How many players in this league would get into Bayern's side, or Madrid's or Barca's is debatable but as we have seen with Pedro and Di Maria for example... How many players from those teams would do well here???

    Dan from Bedford

Couldn't disagree with the conclusion to Joe's text more. This has been the only season that has been worth watching, because of its unpredictable, competitive games. If a reduction in perceived quality has been the cause, bring it on!

That's the stuff, that's the ticket! Lovely play from Stoke as Ibrahim Afellay links up with Marko Arnautovic 25 yards out, the Austrian spins away from his defender and hits a low, early shot which has plenty of movement on it and forces Hugo Lloris into an uncomfortable save.

The hosts looking good now, as Bojan then slices a shot wide.
