"It is an opportunity, a chance for us. We have five games to play and the gap is big but we can reduce it. If we want to win the league we must win."

The title race took another twist this afternoon with the news that Leicester striker Jamie Vardy has been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association for his behaviour following his second-half sending-off against West Ham.

It means that Vardy could now face a two-game ban instead of one.

The FA has also charged Leicester with failing to control their players after an 83rd-minute penalty was given to the visitors.

Both the player and the club have until 18:00 BST on Thursday, 21 April to reply to the charges.

    Pat Murphy

"David Moyes is interested in the Aston Villa manager's job but is yet to be contacted by the relegated club.

"Nearly six months after being sacked by Real Sociedad, Moyes is keen to get back into football and is attracted by the challenge of reviving Villa.

"The 52-year-old has watched them live recently and would be receptive to talks but is aware doubts over next season's budget could delay matters.

"Nigel Pearson remains the favourite with bookmakers to take over."

Stoke boss Mark Hughes has admitted that if it comes to down to him or Spurs for West Brom striker Saido Berahino this summer, he doesn't expect to be welcoming Saido to Staffordshire.

"By all accounts, Spurs will always have an interest in quite a few players we are interested in," Hughes said., external

Acknowledging Tottenham's impending Champions League qualification, he continued: "Given a choice, we are realistic. If a player has a choice of Spurs and Stoke, and even though we can pitch up and make a good case for them to come here, they may feel Spurs is a more attractive option and we have to accept that."

    • Stoke did the double over Tottenham last season but have lost two of the last three home meetings.
    • Spurs let slip a 2-0 lead when the teams drew 2-2 at White Hart Lane in August.

  17. 'Long-awaited chance for Spurs'published at 18:55 British Summer Time 18 April 2016

    Stoke v Tottenham (20:00 BST)

    John Murray
    BBC Radio 5 live commentator

"So after Leicester dropped points for the first time since 1 March this presents Tottenham with a long-awaited opportunity to exert a little pressure on the leaders.

"With games running out, it's an opportunity Spurs simply have to take now that Leicester need a maximum of eight points to become champions.

"However, it is the Britannia Stadium and, even though Stoke lost miserably at Anfield last time out, their home ground remains a daunting venue for the leading clubs.

"In fact, the other members of the Premier League's top five have all failed to beat Stoke there this season."

Spurs fans may have been dreaming of lifting the Premier League trophy after all in the 94th minute of Sunday's cracker between Leicester and West Ham.

But the merest brush of Andy Carroll's hip on Jeff Schlupp handed Leicester a late penalty - one which Leo Ulloa smashed home.

Eight points behind - with 15 up for grabs.

That's the gap facing Tottenham as they aim to chase down Leicester at the top of the Premier League.

Can Dele Alli inspire Tottenham again?

Win at Stoke tonight and the gap will be just five points with four games to go. Spurs would really dial up the pressure on the Foxes.

But a defeat at the Britannia this evening - a ground where they were soundly beaten last May - would shove Leicester even closer to that maiden title win.

Never mind your wet Wednesday night in Stoke nonsense - it's all about whether Spurs can master it on a mild Monday.
