"Jurgen Klopp is getting more animated on the sidelines as Manchester United come into the game - but that's also creating more space for Liverpool to take advantage of. Great movement from Philippe Coutinho to create room for that shot, brilliantly saved by David de Gea."

Our vote is now closed, with 62% of you backing Liverpool to progress from the tie. It it ends 1-0 then United are right in the game - and as Simon Mignolet flaps at a cross the visitors are looking dangerous.

  3. GREAT SAVE!published at 53 mins

    Liverpool 1-0 Man Utd

Sublime stuff! The touch from Philippe Coutinho to take it away form a defender was ace, it sat up at 'a nice height' for him to shoot on the bounce from maybe 22 yards out, Patrik Berger range at the Kop End, and he crashes in a dipping shot. It's flying in until David de Gea spins out a wrist to push it away.

    Great save number three!

Roberto Firmino with a nutmegged backheel in midfield! Oh yes, you can retire on those bits of magic. Kevin Kilbane kills the mood by saying that he didn't mean it...

Liverpool know they are in a game again now though as the visitors in white continue to look a different proposition since that change.

Evidence that Louis van Gaal's half-time tactical tinkerings may bear fruit as United keep the ball for an extended period of time for the first real time. Captain Juan Mata ends up laying the ball into the path of Morgan Schneiderlin 22 yards out, he has a reluctant shot and it's an easy grab for Simon Mignolet.

"Manchester United are maybe just starting to find their way into the game. Getting the ball into Marouane Fellaini has been the start of so many of their attacks tonight."

MakSteel: Ah yes, a return to the 3 centre-backs for United. Roll on the trophies.

rambo rambo: 3-5-2 oh no. I'm dreading it now. Prove me wrong lads. Come on Utd.

Marcos Rojo is perhaps fortunate not to get booked for chopping down Jordan Henderson as Liverpool continue to swarm all over the visitors. Not sure how Michael Carrick can help get hold of the game from centre-back.

Michael Carrick is on, replacing young Marcus Rashford for Manchester United. For years and years and years we heard about how United struggled to replace Paul Scholes and Roy Keane. Now they can't seem to replace Carrick!

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

"If it wasn't for goalkeeper David de Gea, Manchester United fans might be thinking of trading in their tickets for the second leg at Old Trafford.

"He has been sensational so far and is the only reason United are still in contention.

"Liverpool have been too fast and too mobile. United have not been able to get Antony Martial into the game and Marcus Rashford cannot make an impact stuck out on the right flank."

Michael Carrick is going through an extended warm-up, looks like he may be coming on at half-time.

If United are as poor again you can bet that he'll be pushed out in front of the TV cameras too. He's the go-to man for a rank away display...

"Without the ball Liverpool have been brilliant. But those missed chances might come back to haunt them...

"Another thing to mention: I worry about the referee. The way he's been handing out yellow cards, when it's not been that dirty a game, we could see a red card tonight."

Dom Mcloughlin: A great 45 mins for Liverpool, but I always start to worry when we squander gilt-edged chances to kill a game off...

Phil Elliott: I'm a Liverpool fan and it's fair to say we should we 3 or 4 up. De Gea is the reason we're not, he has been unbelievably good.

Gary Neville's Valencia trail at the break - they're losing 1-0 away to fellow Spanish side Athletic Bilbao.

Villarreal (the fourth Spanish team still in) are winning 1-0 at home to Bayer Leverkusen, while Czech side Sparta Prague were pegged back to 1-1 after taking a surprise lead at home to Lazio.

Deathapedisco: In Memphis' defence, Falcao and Veron arrived at prime ages. In Falcao's defence, injury has destroyed him. Veron... Yeah...

Barnaby Thompson: I have a sneaky suspicion Memphis Depay is the new Nani...

Stuart Mount: Depay is somewhere between 0.5 on the Falco/Morientes scale

    Excellent scale that Stuart.
