Referee Carlos Carballo is not here to make friends as he now books Marcus Rashford for a challenge on halfway.

As my no doubt angry brother is now screaming at the TV, 'not every foul is a booking ref!'

We will do well to end the night with 22 on the field...

Khan Karn: How are Liverpool not out of sight by now? Tie should be over but for De Gea, Where would Man Utd be without him?

  6. YELLOW CARDpublished at 43 mins

Don't watch Denis Irwin! Don't watch!

It's a shot for Manchester United but left-back Marcos Rojo can only spanner a shot high and wide from 25 yards. Nowhere near.

Dejan Lovren is then booked for an earlier foul on Anthony Martial.

  7. GREAT SAVE!published at 41 mins

    Liverpool 1-0 Man Utd

Goalscoring sensation Marcus Rashford does some fine work for Manchester United - but it's in the right-back position as he clears a dangerous cross.

Liverpool spin the ball back out to the right, it comes over and Adam Lallana has an effort well saved by David de Gea this time!

    De Gea is immense.

"The tempo is being dictated totally by Liverpool. When Manchester United have been out of possession they've been poor. There's been no pressure on the Liverpool back four."

Where does Memphis Depay's first season in England rank on the flop scale? Somewhere between Juan Veron and Falcao?

No doubt there's a very talented player in there somewhere but apart from half-seeing him score a belter through a bar window while on my honeymoon in August, I'm not sure I've seen him do anything else.

Free-kick to United, Memphis Depay has the chance to deliver from wide on the left but he thinks he's Cristiano Ronaldo doesn't he and shoots. Miles wide. Poor decision young man. In the mixer! Hit Fellaini...

Liverpool will not be content to go in at 1-0 up, they have bossed the game from the off. United's backline looks very fragile.

"What a save that is again from David de Gea.

"Louis van Gaal talks about how he loves to control possession - well this is totally the opposite tonight. Liverpool are starting to enjoy themselves."

For the second time tonight, HE HAS TO SCORE!

What a chance that is, as Chris Smalling gets it all wrong, losing his footing as the last man and missing a routine clearance, the ball falling for Daniel Sturridge. One touch to set, to cock the rifle, and then he hammers the shot on goal but David de Gea makes a flying save.

Great stop, but he should be scoring there.

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Anfield

Manchester United are not getting a second here - and that was a moment of brilliance from keeper David de Gea to stop Philippe Coutinho adding a second.

Liverpool's fans sense United are here for the taking at the moment and Louis van Gaal's side are offering little in response.

United without a shepherd? They have two of the best herders in the business on the bench in Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger. I think it's actually a border collie that they are lacking in their, er, flock.

    Or something.

Bunwi Aweda: Manchester United playing like a sheep without Shepherd. Lucky to be a goal down after 26 minutes. Carrick needed.

Dessie Drum: Missed chances. Liverpool will lose this.

Stuart Margitson: There's no way this will finish 11 v 11.
