The Kop is festooned with flags this evening, including one proclaiming "Unity Is Strength." And the volume is really being turned up now.
Manchester United's supporters are, as usual, in one corner of the Anfield Road stand and the sight and sound of broadcasters from around the world in attendance tonight simply confirms this game's status as more than your average Europa League last 16 tie.
Liverpool v Man Utd (20:05 GMT)
The last all-English Uefa Cup/Europa League game was Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur in the 1972-73 semi-finals. The Reds prevailed on away goals thanks to a Steve Heighway strike at White Hart Lane.
Liverpool went on to win the trophy by beating Borussia Monchengladbach 3-2 on aggregate.
An omen?

Liverpool have been far superior than United in Europe over the years. This is a must win two-legged affair for Liverpool in order to continue that European superiority, and then go and win it to gain CL place just to rub it in a little more!!
Martyn, forever LFC
What is it with our Premier League teams, awash with TV money and none seem capable of seriously competing on more than one front. It's embarrassing.
Tony, Leeds
At least one Premier League side is guaranteed to go through eh?
Liverpool v Man Utd (20:05 GMT)
Liverpool are six points outside of the top four with 10 games to go.
Manchester United are three points away with nine matches remaining.

Fellaini starts. That'll be a Dortmund vs Liverpool final then. Klopp old vs Klopp new. LvG has to go.

Beating Man Utd in any competition always brings a smile to my face!
Ian - Great Malvern.
Supported United all 25 years of my life. Heading up to Old Trafford next week for the second leg from London, on my own. Already have butterflies. Mean nothing? Not a chance.

In tonight's other game, Spurs are in a spot of strife against an excellent, energetic Dortmund side. I wonder if Jurgen Klopp is watching?
Goals from Patrick Aubameyang and Marco Reus have put the Germans in control with just over 20 minutes to go.

AC/DC's anthem "Highway To Hell" is blasting out at Anfield and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will want his side to produce the "heavy metal football" he loved so much at Borussia Dortmund.
The Europa League may not necessarily have pride of place on either Liverpool or Manchester United's honours list - but it has huge significance this season with a Champions League place as the prize.
The stadium is filling up and expect it to be at boiling point at kick-off time for the the first European meeting between these two bitter rivals.

Liverpool v Man Utd (20:05 GMT)
It's a cheap, lazy, easy dig to suggest that this game does not mean as much as other clashes between these two sides purely because the Europa League is an inferior competition.
But it doesn't though. Does it?
Or am I just winding you up?
Liverpool fans: Would a two-legged win over United mean the world to you?
Manchester United fans: Would a win at Anfield tonight rank right up there when it comes to beating Liverpool?
Or does the carrot of a place in the Champions League mean that, actually, this one is massive.
Let us know.

These two colossi of English, of European, of world football may have met 166 times in the league but never before have they crossed swords in European competition.
If nothing else the 32-mile trip from Old Trafford to Anfield should ensure that we have no stories complaining about how tired the players are after a midweek trip.
Krasnodar or Kazan it is not.

Yes, it may be Thursday night, yes it may be the Europa League, yes the two giants of English football may be in a relative lull.
But don't try and tell anyone that this game does not matter.
It's arguably the biggest fixture around. Ready for the Europa League to get interesting?
