"It was a great turn of pace from Martial. It was a soft challenge, but there is contact. It was a penalty, you can see it from the replay. That's just what Manchester United needed, it's got the crowd going. Liverpool were having a good spell when United got the penalty. Game on."

  7. GREAT SAVE!published at 27 mins

Man Utd 0-0 Liverpool (Agg: 0-2)

He is brilliant isn't he? Wonderful stop from David de Gea, snaking out a left hand and pushing away a fierce shot from Philippe Coutinho from the edge of the area. Coutinho made a good call to leave it to a team-mate running across his lie and he middled his drive. Sweet as a nut.

It's really opening up now. Marcus Rashford is stretching play at one end but one attack for Liverpool and they have a three on three break. A poor pass cuts the move dead but that was dangerous...

"Manchester United are all over them. Liverpool's problem is that Coutinho is so narrow. The more chances you get, you've got to take advantage of it because Liverpool, with the players they've got, will definitely create."

  12. CLOSE!published at 21 mins

Man Utd 0-0 Liverpool (Agg: 0-2)

Great feet from Marcus Rashford before finding Anthony Martial hugging the touchline on the left, he drives inside, beats one man, then another - sound familiar? - but unlike on his debut he thrashes over the crossbar.

    United on top.

Twenty pretty quiet minutes and two chances in 30 seconds. That spell of play will inspire Manchester United and their fans that this two-goal deficit is far from insurmountable.

Man Utd 0-0 Liverpool (Agg: 0-2)

An initial error, a superb recovery! Marcos Rojo whips in a testing, deep cross and Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet makes a hash of coming for it. Jesse Lingard has a free header from only seven yards and he should score - but Mignolet makes a superb stop!

Juan Mata then toes a volley wide as Liverpool struggle with the resulting corner.

    Two very big chances.

"Jordan Henderson seems to want to play these 30 to 40-yard passes every time he has the ball but I thought he was at his best when he ran through from midfield. I always thought he was at his best when he was running past players."

More Fellaini chat than anything else...

Manchester United enjoy a long spell of pressure but it's Liverpool to craft the first moment of danger as Daniel Sturridge weaves away from one tackle and sends Adam Lallana clean through on goal - but he's offside.

United playing a very high line.

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Old Trafford

Manchester United's Marouane Fellaini was very fortunate to escape punishment after flattening Emre Can with a flying elbow at Anfield last week - and he has already enraged Liverpool's Roberto Firmino in a similar incident.

The Belgian is a giant figure and of course he has to use he elbows to jump, but how many times does he catch an opponent? Too many.

    Needs to watch himself already.

DeathApeDisco: All very well saying "poor Fellaini" but all he has to do is turn and attack, not pass backwards and foul all the time

Lewis Bett: Fellaini makes United 'tick', but he still gets stick from the fans

David Scott: I think Fellaini is good, good at passing, good in the air. Everton played him right, not ManU
