France need to make them run on the counter. You can't just sit and defend. I don't know whether we can just defend for 45 minutes, we need to make them work.

boldaslove: Had England not COMPLETELY underestimated Iceland they could've won this tournament. Makes that performance even harder to take

Not sure where to start with this one. If Argentina was in Europe they'd probably fancy their chances.

If the Brazil team of 1970 were both still in their 20s and all from Europe they'd do well...

Will there be changes from either side? France may well be thinking about N'Golo Kante now, while Mario Gotze, Leroy Sane, Lukas Podolski and Andre Schurrle are all options for Germany.

The last time Germany won after being 1-0 down at half-time was in February 2013  - where they beat France 2-1.

  9. 'Germany need to change it'published at 20:54 British Summer Time 7 July 2016

    Germany 0-1 France

    Danny Mills
Ex-England defender on BBC Radio 5 live

Germany have got players who can take control of the game and change it. That is what they'll need to do in the second half, because Olivier Giroud, with Griezmann in behind, they'll cause a threat for France.

I think that's a penalty, you can't go with your hands up like that.

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer in Marseille

Germany had played with the stature and power of world champions to subdue France, missing only the goal their superiority deserved.

But, like Jerome Boateng against Italy in the quarter-final, the question has to be why Bastian Schweinsteiger went into that aerial challenge with Patrice Evra with his arms up?

The whole feel of the Stade Velodrome changed in that moment and now France have a precious lead to protect. Germany will feel badly hurt by that.

  13. 'More than fortunate'published at 20:53 British Summer Time 7 July 2016

    Germany 0-1 France

    Thierry Henry
Former France international on BBC One

France being ahead is more than fortunate. I was expecting Germany to dominate and they did.

It looked like we were going to have a go and then we sat back more and more and more.

I think it is a penalty.

  14. 'I don't think it was a penalty'published at 20:52 British Summer Time 7 July 2016

    Germany 0-1 France

    Alan Shearer
    Ex-England captain on BBC One

You can list stats all you want like possession but the only stat that matters is goals. Germany have had lots of possession but haven't put their chances away. They've put a lot of pressure on what is basically a back 11. It's not like Germany have great pace so they have to get another 10 yards up the pitch

I don't think it was a penalty, Bastian Schweinsteiger was protecting his face. It's supposed to be intentional handball.

  15. 'Attack, attack, attack'published at 20:51 British Summer Time 7 July 2016

    Germany 0-1 France

    Danny Mills
Ex-England defender on BBC Radio 5 live

This makes for a great second half. Germany are going to have to come out and attack, attack, attack.

  16. Watch againpublished at 20:51 British Summer Time 7 July 2016

    Germany 0-1 France

Before France actually did go in to the lead Olivier Giroud should have put them 1-0 up. Or at least pass it! Watch it again here.

  17. 'Well done to the referee'published at 20:51 British Summer Time 7 July 2016

    Germany 0-1 France

    Chris Waddle
Former England winger at Stade Velodrome on BBC Radio 5 live

After the first five minutes Germany dominated. They had movement, technical ability, everything... and then Schweinsteiger goes and handles it. Why put your hands up that high? Well done to the referee.

Antoine Griezmann has scored five goals at the tournament now. A shoe-in for the golden boot?

  19. Postpublished at 20:50 British Summer Time 7 July 2016

    Germany 0-1 France

It was a clear penalty for me on second viewing. The surprise was that the referee was very undemonstrative when he gave the penalty. We thought he had given a foul the other way.

  20. 'It's harsh'published at 20:49 British Summer Time 7 July 2016

    Germany 0-1 France

    Martin Keown
Former England defender at Stade Velodrome on BBC One

His arm is up and it's headed onto his arm. It's harsh. The referee is behind it. He can't see surely from there.

Antoine Griezmann can't believe it himself. How cool was he when he put it away?
