    Germany 0-0 France

Germany work it nicely again and this time sling in an early cross, it finds its way through to Julian Draxler but he and Thomas Muller can't find a secure touch between them and the ball is hacked away.

Hugo Lloris then plays his team into trouble with a shoddy ball. Germany must surely take the lead before the break?

Sully: Germany are the one truly world-class team at Euro 2016. France are a poor team relying on a couple of individuals

Bastian Schweinsteiger may have seen his best days but he still relishes the grand occasion such as this and he is helping Germany dictate terms in midfield at the moment.

Paul Pogba and Blaise Matuidi are struggling to exert their influence and this is an increasingly impressive performance from the world champions.

Germany are so fluid. The back four are in place, but everyone else is all over the shop. In a good way.

Organised chaos. Mesut Ozil in the centre circle and Emre Can as centre forward. Total Fussball.

This was a game that plenty said would have graced the Euro 2016 final and it is certainly living up to every expectation. It has been a wonderful spectacle so far.

France and Germany are not holding back. There is quality in every area of the pitch and the crowd is loving every second.

The hosts started well but Germany have shown composure and plenty of menace. The minutes are flying by.

  7. 'They smother you'published at 20:30 British Summer Time 7 July 2016

    Germany 0-0 France

    Martin Keown
Former England defender at Stade Velodrome on BBC One

It's very simple what Germany are doing - their full-backs push on and then their wingers come inside.

It saps your confidence when you can't get hold of the ball - and when you do, you give it away again.

What Germany do ever so well is to close you down and smother you once you have the ball.

Antoine Griezmann relieves some of the intense pressure with a nutmeg and pass in midfield, but he then undoes all the good work with a slack pass. A few men in blue look absolutely knackered already. Half an hour of chasing shadows in 30C Mediterranean heat. Punishing.

Mr Wyatt: Kante or Schneiderlin needs to replace Sissoko at half-time. France can't cope at the moment

Stephen Shaw: Muller might score more goals here if he spent less time shouting at the ref. Cracking game though

Not playing with a central striker has its drawbacks - and I thought that Germany played better with Mario Gomez than without - but when the false nine system works like it is here it allows teams to outnumber their opponents. It looks like France are a man down.

    Chris Waddle

Germany are just playing unbelievable football. Outnumbering France all over the pitch. This is what we expected of them. They've got that confidence. That belief.

It's the level of this game that stands out. Everything is happening at 130% of normal speed. Like going up to 'professional' or 'world class' on a computer game.

Bastian Schweinsteiger sees a curling shot from range tiped over. Good save Hugo Lloris.

Good effort. All he can do is hit the target from there. Over the wall, but Neuer was waiting for it, he just threw his cap on it. This is a really good game though.

France break out, Dimitri Payet is tripped by Bastian Schweinsteiger and Marseille erupts. He's 25 yards out or more but Payet can make it rain out there with that right foot.

    Here he comes...

Over the wall but Manuel Neuer tracks it down the leg side and gathers it in nicely.

And another chance for the Germans this time from Liverpool's Emre Can. France have Hugo Lloris to thank for keeping the score level.

  16. Watch againpublished at 20:24 British Summer Time 7 July 2016

It's been all Germany so far and they really should be ahead - shame Muller couldn't find the target.

This is brilliant from Germany now. They are strangling France, who can't have more than a second on the ball. Swamped by white shirts. On a few occasions Germany are inches away from beating the last man but France just about hang on.

Toni Kroos with a change of pace and a little one-two.

I think the referee got it right not to give the penalty, but even if it was a foul it was just outside the box. The referee had a good view of it.

  19. 'No penalty'published at 20:22 British Summer Time 7 July 2016

Toni Kroos is such a wonderful player. Was there maybe a foul? No, he was looking for it. But what a top-class player.

  20. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 21 mins

Toni Kroos is playing further forwards tonight, the handbrake is off and we are seeing a different side to him. He nutmegs a man in midfield and drives for the penalty area, Samuel Umtiti and Paul Pogba sandwich him right on the edge of the area as he gets a shot away - and that's not a foul. Is it? Kroos wants a spot-kick.
