  1. GREAT SAVE!published at 9 mins

    Portugal 0-0 France

Cristiano Ronaldo is back on the field. You will not be surprised to hear.

Pepe slips as he clears and here's a chance for France! Put over the top, he goes for a looping header a la Van Persie in Brazil, great effort and Rui Patricio tips it over!

That was a bit of a welcome to the game for Ronaldo.

There were five Portugal players involved in the build-up to Nani's fourth-minute miss, including keeper Rui Patricio.

My description of a punt downfield was a little harsh.

    Dimitri Payet - hatchet man?

He crunches Renato Sanches in the middle and then seconds later does the same to Cristiano Ronaldo. The influence of Slaven Bilic perhaps?

Referee Mark Clattenburg says play on. Ronaldo needs treatment.

    Portugal 0-0 France

That's another good opportunity for France. Griezmann just snatches at it. I expect more from him there.

I like the way that France have started. They have got a nice tempo about them and are already pushing Portugal back.

    Portugal 0-0 France

Moussa Sissoko hammers a shot well over the top before Dimitri Payet ties his man in a knot down the left. He keeps it alive and Antoine Griezmann eventually shoots wide from a tight angle. Encouraging start to the occasion!

What is already obvious is that Portugal are going to drop off, give a bit of possession and counter. It's what we expected.

  9. CLOSE!published at 4 mins

    Portugal 0-0 France

It's been all France so far but Portugal almost hurt the hosts on the counter - just a long ball downfield, a punt really, and Nani is in. He's caught the French defence square, takes the ball on his chest and then hits a dipping strike over the top from 18 yards...

    Portugal 0-0 France

    Danny Murphy

I have got to mention the atmosphere. It's absolutely incredible. I've watched and been involved in many big games but I can't remember an atmosphere like this. It's like electricity.

France are really playing a 4-4-2 with Griezmann playing off Giroud.

William Carvalho is the second Portuguese player to shank a pass straight out of play already. Nerves from the men in red.

Nani's kick-off goes backwards, Jose Fonte plays a shocking pass across his own backline and Antoine Griezmann is very close to picking it up!

Right, that's all the formalities out of the way. Let's have a good, clean game please.

Make this a tournament to remember after all...

Just terrific. Noise, right pitch, right tempo - they all stayed in time, listen and learn England fans - a rousing finale.

    It's a 10/10 from me.

  19. 'France lead would make it tough'published at 19:56 British Summer Time 10 July 2016

    Portugal v France (20:00 BST)

    Danny Mills
Ex-England defender on BBC Radio 5 live

We said before the tournament that France have the best group of individuals and they have started to come together as a team in the last few games.

If they go 1-0 up then it will be very very difficult for Portugal.

  20. Anthems timepublished at 19:56 British Summer Time 10 July 2016

    Portugal v France (20:00 BST)

The Portuguese anthem is loudly jeered as it leads off the night's action. Jose Fonte, in perhaps the biggest game he will ever play in, is very loud, while Cristiano Ronaldo has his eyes closed and is booming it out.
