Everyone in the country will be against Cristiano Ronaldo, but he will thrive off that hostility, and off their fear.

The French know Cristiano is the player capable of destroying their dream because he has produced magic moments in huge matches right through his career.

Part of the reason he is a superstar is because he is not fazed by the big occasion - quite the opposite in fact.

Superstars like him relish these situations - the pressure that goes with it brings the best out of him, when other players falter.

    Lawro's predictionsImage source, Rex Features

France have more attacking weapons than any other team in the tournament and on top of that they have got momentum and home advantage.

Many of the best players over the past month have been French and in Antoine Griezmann they have the player of the tournament. He is an outstanding number 10 but what I love about him is that he is perfectly happy to track back and work when he is asked to as well.

I am convinced France will win but it is difficult to say whether this will be the start of a period of dominance for Les Bleus. Most of their talented attacking players are young, but it is hard to know how they will shape up as a team by the time the next World Cup comes round in 2018.

In theory, Antoine Griezmann could still be caught in the battle to be the tournament's top scorer. It would take a remarkable performance from Cristiano Ronaldo to do it though. Or Nani.

Dimitri Payet and Olivier Giroud are also still in contention, technically at least.

It is a gloriously warm and sunny evening in Paris for the Euro 2016 final between France and Portugal.

We have just had a taste of what is to come with the rousing reception given to coach Didier Deschamps and his players as they came out to walk around the pitch.

This is the 51st and final match of this tournament and everyone in France hopes it will have the happy ending they crave.

Portugal's superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has the capability to spoil what is planned as a national party. He is the big danger to  the hosts' aspirations.

For Portuguese daily Publico, external, it's all about that man again Cristiano Ronaldo. One more goal for him and he’ll become the tournament’s all-time leading scorer. Publico describes the goal – when it comes - as “another record in an already packed CV”. The daily goes on: “To say that Cristiano Ronaldo’s career has been one of records is to say little, because it is easy to lose count of the records achieved by the 31-year-old."

Antoine Griezmann should definitely grow a mullet

Le Figaro describes the French team as “the Blues who deserve to be loved”, external and praises coach Didier Deschamps as a “coach who knows how to win and speak to his men, and who has been able to make good choices” throughout the tournament.

The daily goes on to describe striker Antoine Griezmann as France’s “lethal weapon and darling”, external. A lethal weapon because “with six goals and two assists, he is by far the most decisive player of the tournament.” A darling because he’s being fought over by various brands and “has even made the cover of the Fifa 2016 video game alongside Lionel Messi".

Grizou or Zizou? For French daily Ouest France, external, Griezmann is next in line to be one of France’s footballing greats after Michel Platini and Zinedine Zidane. “18 years ago our hero was Zinedine Zidane. In 1984, it was Michel Platini. These two giants may have found their successor in Antoine Griezmann, top scorer in the Euros with six goals in six games.”

France boss Didier Deschamps is bidding to become only the second man to win the European Championship as player and a manager after the former midfielder helped Les Bleus triumph in 2000.

The only man so far to win it as a player and a boss? Step forward former Scotland boss Berti Vogts, who was part of West Germany's 1972 winning side before mastermindinghis country's Euro 96 success.

France goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris says the tournament has helped his country "escape" from November's attacks in the city.

Lloris explained the significance of the final when he said: "The French people really needed to escape in this competition and sport has this strength to bring people together. You can see that because we are currently experiencing it. We still have one step to take, though, if we are to finish this tournament in a good way."

Lloris, 29, added: "We have had some tough times, with tragic events and events off the field, but we are proud to be on the pitch and really feel the French population behind us."

    'Allez les Bleus!'

Sixty-six million people may have started Euro 2016 hoping to see France do well, but now they completely expect to see Hugo Lloris lift the trophy by the end of tonight.

    Dimitri PayetImage source, AP

In a month which has seen first Dimitri Payet and then Antoine Griezmann almost single-handedly carry and lift the French team through games, hopes and anticipation have now reached fever pitch levels.

Didier Deschamps' side have shown determination, an ability to find a late goal when they need one and also a grit to see off Germany that perhaps we didn't know they possessed.

Griezmann and Payet are match-winners, and in Paul Pogba they probably have the world's first £100m player in midfield.

But pressure is a funny thing. The biggest unknown factor in sport - arguably.

Deschamps can send his chosen 11 out onto the Stade de France pitch tonight in the best possible state of mind, but who is to really know how they will react to going behind, to losing a man to injury or dismissal?

How will the crowd react? To come so close and then...

For those reasons, and a large, chiseled Adonis in a seven shirt, Portugal will back their chances tonight.

A third title in 32 years? All on home soil?

Or a first ever crown for the nearly men of the last 20 years?

    To you, Paris...
