Australia have had 61% of the play so far.

But here's an England chance! Marcus Rashford turns provider with a cute pass over the defence to find Adam Lallana in space, he turns and gets a shot off but Mat Ryan makes a very decent save.

"I think Australia have been excellent. I've been very impressed considering this isn't event their best team.

"England's front three are here, there and everywhere. Forget systems, at this level you have to look after the football and England haven't."

Knife through butter. Australia cut England open with a cracking move, they feed it into Brad Smith on the left and he cuts it back perfectly for Jamie MacLaren. The striker gets there but his shot is well blocked by Chris Smalling.

    England look very vulnerable.

Chelsea's Lewis Baker scored a first-half penalty to send Gareth Southgate's side through to Sunday's showpiece against France.

He doesn't miss! But Marcus Rashford, and England in general, have been quiet since that goal. Australia look eminently comfortable.

David Simpson: Lallana showing incredible work rate in the middle. Typical gegenpressing. Not giving the Australians an inch.

Ian Funnell: Wilshere's passing looking sharper tonight which will make Roy happy.

England under the cosh. Imagine Shane Warne at one end and Glenn McGrath at the other. That sort of pressure.

    England 1-0 Australia

England are ragged at the back. They give the ball away far too easily and Ryan Bertrand has to come over and make a saving challenge.

Eric Dier - in his absence - is showing why he's now one of the first names on the sheet.

    Chris Waddle

"I don't think there's any shape to England. Australia seem to know what they are doing. England are not winning second balls or passing it well. You are looking for improvement on what we've seen so far."

Adam Lallana showing a bit of Jurgen Klopp's gegenpressing to win the ball back superbly high up the pitch. It comes to nothing though.

Chris Waddle is not a happy man with England's display despite that early lead.

Mauricio Pochettino is in the stands as Ireland take on Netherlands in Dublin. Who may he be watching?

He's seeing a frenetic game void of any really constructive passing so far. Ireland in a tight block without the ball. Stephen Quinn picks up a ball and bursts from midfield but his cross is heavy.

Rachel T: Kane, Vardy and Rashford. A set of strikers to frighten anyone - and who could've predicted that back in August?!

Kris: Henderson looking rusty and Sterling lacking confidence and a first touch. Personally I wouldn't take either at this rate.

Meurig Elis Jones: Sterling should be nowhere near the Eng team. Has done literally nothing this season. That said, hope he starts v us Welsh!!

A real Michael Owen in 1998 story developing around Marcus Rashford. Could he force his way into the starting XI yet?

Australia have a free-kick cleared and England counter. Raheem Sterling has the pace to break down the right and Marcus Rashford is in again...this time a slightly shoddy touch and Liverpool left-back Brad Smith gets back to tackle.

Marcus Rashford has looked the perfect fit for international football from the moment he joined up with England's squad - and this has been a nerveless opening phase from the 18-year-old.

Rashford may just have been on the margins of manager Roy Hodgson's thoughts when he named his extended 26-man squad - now it is getting harder to see how he can leave him out.

    England 1-0 Australia

England haven't played much football since taking that very early lead but Marcus Rashford excites the fans again with a direct run down the left. They keep the ball well and switch it back out to the right, but Nathaniel Clyne's cross is poor.

They're a bit ragged and out of shape, England.
