"I think when the squad was announced there were questions over the fitness of Jack Wilshere and Jordan Henderson then you would think it was Drinkwater and Delph who missed out. We’ve already lost Delph and there’s a big question mark over Sturridge. I think looking at the midfield, with just three central defenders, you might need Eric Dier to drop back there and need Drinkwater as a defensive midfielder. So does that raise a question over Ross Barkley?"

"He has not been phased by tough games for Manchester United and I hope that will pass on to us. 

"He has enormous pace, is direct and is very good at making runs behind defenders. Technically, from what I've seen, he is a very good player. But then he is young and has lot to learn but everyone starts somewhere."

It's all eyes on Marcus Rashford as he aims for a performance to push him into Roy Hodgson's final 23. 

Phillip Sparrow: Rashford is far more deserving of a place than Henderson, Lallana, Wilshere or Sterling.

Vieira 151: I'd rather have Wilshere in the 23 than Henderson. He offers more, and Drinkwater and Dier are more solid. Just saying.

Charles Meyrick: big game for Wilsh... Drinkw... Hende...Rashf... for the whole team.

What on earth must be going through Marcus Rashford's mind right now? He only played for Manchester United for the first time 92 days ago.

When I was his age the only pressure I was under was trying to find a pub that opened at 7am for the upcoming World Cup. 

If you would have offered me a free bet of £10,000 some years ago I would have staked it on the safest of safe bets - Michael Owen to be England's record goalscorer.

Owen was 18 years and 59 days old when he played for the Three Lions against Chile in February 1998. And he lit the World Cup up a few months later with his wonder goal against Argentina.

Colin Todd: Taking only three centre backs seems a big risk. Stones hasn't looked great from what I've seen this season.

Republic of Ireland are in lovely form ahead of Euro 2016. They'll need to be of course with Belgium, Italy and Sweden in their group.

"Danny Drinkwater had a great season with Leicester and it's a big game for him tonight. Can he get on the ball and use that range of pass? Will Jack Wilshere prove his fitness?

"Jordan Henderson looks stiff in the warm-up. It's interesting to see how they come through this and Australia are not going to hold back by the way."

Daniel Sturridge is not in the squad at all tonight. Surely his chances are thin now?

“I think the big problem is Daniel Sturridge. I like him as a player but his injury record in recent years is a concern. If Marcus Rashford does well tonight then Sturridge might miss out which is a shame because I’m a big fan of his. Rashford just has to go out and play how he normally plays the game – link up the play. He’s got that turn of pace and he’s a good finisher too."
