"Lorik Cana will be kicking himself. Not for the handball, but in that he already had a yellow card, which left him in such a vulnerable position."

  2. HALF-TIMEpublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 11 June 2016

    Albania 0-1 Switzerland

Just think about it, Albania have waited forever to be at a tournament like this and then delivered 45 minutes where they have handed the two key moments of the game to their opponents on a silver platter.

Poor goalkeeping gifted the opening goal and a red card has compounded the struggle the debutants face.

Our friends at Opta tell us only twice before has a player received two yellows faster than this one today (Luigi Apolloni 29th minute in Italy v Czech Republic in 1996 and Gianluca Zambrotta in min 34 in Italy v Netherlands in 2000).

Excellent hands on show again from Yann Sommer as the Swiss goalkeeper plucks a corner from the air.

We will have one added minute. This has been a perfect half for Switzerland. An early goal and now facing 10 men.

    Albania 0-1 Switzerland

I looked at the touch stats a few moments ago and Etrit Berisha in the Albania goal had not had many touches. His nine was the lowest amount on the field.

Oh how things changed. He's now under siege and Haris Seferovic is the latest to have a go. He fizzes a shot left footed across goal and it needs both hands from Berisha to turn it away.

"It's the right call from the ref to send off Lorik Cana. He's misread the spin on the ball, he's gone to ground and just couldn't help himself."

  9. CLOSE!published at 41 mins

    Albania 0-1 Switzerland

Blerim Dzemaili is in the thick of it again, successfully delaying his run into the box to hit Stephan Lichtsteiner's cut-back... just wide. A good effort, fired low at the near post but it doesn't bend enough.

The free-kick Lorik Cana conceded is in an inviting position to hit and so Blerim Dzemaili does... crashing it against the foot of the post.

  11. RED CARDpublished at 36 mins

Albania 0-1 Switzerland - Lorik Cana

Straight away you know he's off, he knows he's off, everyone knows he's off yet the referee takes a little time to prolong the suffering.

Lorik Cana - already on a yellow -  is in big trouble as he defends a long ball and slips in the process. He has two choices, let Haris Seferovic run clear into the box, or throw a hand at the ball.

He does the latter. Like a fish jumping for water he curves his back to try to disguise what he's doing. No fooling anyone, you're off mate.

    Albania 0-1 Switzerland

"Apart from the scoreline, I think the Albania manager will be the happier. His side are getting stuck in and ruffling the feathers of Switzerland."

Odise Roshi is busy for Albania and he attacks down the right, running at defenders before driving a cross low across the six-yard box. Well held by Yann Sommer.

"What a chance that is for Albania. They have had a better spell in the last 10 minutes and they have to take those opportunities when they are on top."

  15. GREAT SAVE!published at 31 mins

    Albania 0-1 Switzerland

"You are not going to get a better chance than that," says one of my colleagues.

I think he's right as Armando Sadiku races onto a fine long ball from Elseid Hysaj and is in behind the Swiss defence. He takes his time, lifts his head and tries to fire low into the net but finds the legs of Yann Sommer. That's a superb save by the goalkeeper. He stood up, waited and then flicked out a telling leg.

Armando Sadiku forces another corner for Albania and it's a cracking delivery from Taulant Xhaka, prompting an acrobatic clearance in the six-yard box. There's a belief about Albania suddenly and you get the impression they need to make this good spell count.

Much better from Albania, Taulant Xhaka picks the ball up 35 yards out and clips a ball into Odishe Roshi who returns it swiftly to tee up a shot... wide from Xhaka.

At last though that had some purpose to it from the side in red.

  18. 'Simmering away'published at 14:27 British Summer Time 11 June 2016

    Albania 0-1 Switzerland

    Trevor Sinclair
Former England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

"I don't think it will take much to spark this game off. It's just on the edge at the moment. It's simmering along. The players are keeping their discipline well. Albania are improving as this game goes on."

When you consider five of the goals mentioned above arrived against Armenia, it's safe to say Albania don't go all out attack all to often. Just seven goals in seven games.

The top scorer in their national league - Hamdi Salihi -  was not selected, indeed, no outfield player in the squad comes from the domestic league.

In our total of seven, you may have spotted we have not included three goals they were awarded as a walkover win over Serbia.

What they'd give for a charity goal or two now. This was not the start they dreamed up.

Lorik Cana, Albania's captain, is booked for going through Blerim Dzemaili. The Genoa midfielder was just too quick in shifting the ball and got a right boot around the ankles there. He's up and ready for more though.
