The Sun instructs Roy Hodgson to use words from Gareth Bale as motivation for his English troops.

"Cut this out and pin it to the dressing room wall," reads the copy.

The paper is referencing Bale's words on Welsh passion: "I think we've got a lot more passion and pride about us than them. We'll definitely show that on the day."

Wales and England do battle on Thursday of course.

And then in another breath there's a team which spent decades almost void of expectation.

For years, a lack of belief, a lack of ability, call it what you will, this country pretty much abandoned all hope of seeing their heroes in red grace a major tournament.

Vinnie Jones came and went, Barry Horne came and went, Ryan Giggs came and went, Gareth Bale came to conquer.

In one breath we see a team so often hyped up, so often under untold pressure, squeezed under an endless weight of expectation. It's been 50 years since they tasted glory but with a young squad - perhaps not blighted by fear - England arrive in a tournament with a burning desire to right the ugly wrongs of 2014. If you're English you're with them, like always, kicking every ball, from Southend to Sunderland you're behind them.

Hope runs through you, while you waiting for the inevitable pain.
