  1. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 45 mins

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Sweden

Right-back Mikael Lustig, who has had more touches than any other Swedish player, looks like he has an injury and is hobbling off. He's replaced by Erik Johansson. Might be a pulled muscle.

  2. YELLOW CARDpublished at 43 mins

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Sweden

Plenty of space again for Wes Hoolahan as he advances towards the Swedish box but he is outnumbered. Sweden try to break but James McCarthy pulls back Emil Forsberg and goes into the book.

Watch as Jeff Hendrick hits the bar with a curling effort from distance. That would have been a superb goal.

Irish corner. Robbie Brady takes it, cleared, and the second attempt is nodded away too. But here comes Wes Hoolahan, nice weaving, and he works it out left. Brady punches in the cross and Shane Long is inches from nodding it in. Good work again from Ireland.

A goal before half-timer would go down a treat for the Irish, and it would be deserved.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is dropping deeper and deeper to pick up the ball and has been feeding on scraps so far. His team are second best right now, although as a beauty contest this is pretty ugly. Ligue 1 this is not.

Wes Hoolahan, a man who can get teams ticking, is finding the midfield very congested but his team are on top and their fans need precious little encouragement to make some noise.

Oh, and the Uefa official by the dugouts just gave Martin O'Neill a friendly ticking off for straying out of his.

Sebastian Larsson takes it, it's flicked a couple of times to the back post, where Zlatan cannot guide it towards goal. He was under pressure, to be fair.

John Calnan: Rep of Ireland playing much the better but need to put away some chances - best chance of 3 Pts in group.

Hashim Vali: OMG Hendrick, ROI are looking very dangerous on the counter

Devon: I can see Ireland scoring soon some decent efforts.

This is becoming more and more like the England game. Wasting chances, profligacy, whatever you want to call it, is costly.

A real touch of class. The ball was loaded for Jeff Hendrick to hit it straight away. He has caressed it instead of striking it. So unlucky. Sweden are holding on a little bit here.

  12. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 32 mins

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Sweden

Ireland knock on the door again and they are getting louder. This time, Jeff Hendrick exchanges passes in midfield and curls the ball over Andreas Isaksson but it's off the bar. Best passage of play in the game.

Good old Shane Long. How many times is his name alongside the words "puts a shift in".

That he does, but he's getting little reward today in the opening quarter with just three touches of the ball. If only he was where John O'Shea was earlier.

  14. CLOSE!published at 29 mins

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Sweden

I tell you what, this is close. Robbie Brady, who is one of the few to get his foot on the ball so far, cuts inside and lets rip with his right foot. It's only just over and Martin O'Neill has his head in his hands.

There is a lot of honesty and endeavour but not a lot of quality.

That's another way of putting it.

Sweden are showing plenty of endeavour but are being snuffed out by the Irish defence. Darren Randolph then clears the ball straight to a Swedish player, it's forwarded to Zlatan but again he is closed down. The Irish defence and defensive midfielders, such as Glenn Whelan, are working very hard.

Relive the moment John O'Shea doesn't quite get on the end of the ball at the far post. Not sure how he misses it, though.

Darren Randolph takes another cross delivered from the Swedish right. Just what you need from your keeper early in the game. Still advantage Ireland.

    Republic of Ireland 0-0 Sweden

The Republic are favouring the left flank early on in this fixture. Robbie Brady has seen more ball than any of their players with 25 touches. That's almost double what any other player in a green shirt has managed. Seamus Coleman at right-back is on seven touches.
