    Half time

In the Championship, Newcastle's inauspicious start in the second tier continues as they fall behind at home to Huddersfield, with Nakhi Wells netting for the Terriers. Nick Powell has doubled Wigan's lead against Blackburn, while Hadi Sacko has pulled Leeds level against Birmingham. Aston Villa are 2-0 up against Rotherham.

In League One, it's goals galore at Stadium MK. The hosts fell two goals behind against Millwall but a Kieran Agard brace has drawn them level. Rochdale are ahead at Sheffield United and Fleetwood and Gillingham both lead.

In League Two, Stephen O'Donnell has put Luton 1-0 up against Yeovil, as Seasiders Blackpool and Morecambe are level at 1-1.

Five games, three goals. Not the rip-roaring start we wanted eh? Give it time...

  3. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 13 August 2016

    Southampton 0-1 Watford

It's easy this Premier League lark, isn't it?! It is for Walter Mazzarri at least, but not fellow new boy Claude Puel. Watford's boss is winning the battle of the Premier League newbies.

  4. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 13 August 2016

    Middlesbrough 1-0 Stoke

An impressive return to the Premier League for Middlesbrough, who lead at the break. Gaston Ramirez's corner hit the crossbar late in the first half.

  5. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 13 August 2016

    Crystal Palace 0-0 West Brom

Nil-nil. Not much else to say. Go and grab a Bovril. Or, if you're at Selhurst Park, an ice lolly.

  6. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:47 British Summer Time 13 August 2016

    Burnley 0-0 Swansea

New-boys Burnley are doing alright. Swansea had the better opportunities, but nothing too worrying for Sean Dyche's men.

  7. Postpublished at 15:47 British Summer Time 13 August 2016

    Southampton 0-1 Watford

Hang on...Saints almost grab an equaliser. Watford keeper Heurelho Gomes saves Cedric Soares's angled drive. That's Euro 2016-winning Cedric Soares of course.

Everton look really organised and you can tell Ronald Koeman has been at work on them in pre-season. They look settled in their formation and you wonder how good they will look if the three or four new signings Koeman expects materialise.

  9. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:47 British Summer Time 13 August 2016

    Everton 1-0 Spurs

It's half-time and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino will presumably be saying to his players 'what on earth was that?'

  10. Postpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 13 August 2016

    Everton 1-0 Spurs

Everton really should be 2-0 up. This is absolutely shocking from Spurs.

England international Danny Rose tries to play a backpass about 45 yards from his own goal, which Gerard Deulofeu latches onto, and only an excellent save from sub keeper Michel Vorm keeps Spurs in this game.

  11. INJURY TIMEpublished at 15:45 British Summer Time 13 August 2016

    Southampton 0-1 Watford

Four minutes of added time at St Mary's. Little sign of Southampton going into the break level. Bit of a midfield battle is this one.

  12. Postpublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 13 August 2016

    Crystal Palace 0-0 West Brom

If anyone is thinking about sticking a pound on the first scorer of this game then Salomon Rondon is probably your best bet. The Albion man has another half chance, heading well wide from Craig Gardner's left-wing corner.

Just don't bank on the opener coming before the break. Two minutes (plus stoppages) to go...

Lloris going off changes everything for Tottenham as he has been quick off his line a few times. Maybe a re-think is in order now for Mauricio Pochettino.

  14. Postpublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 13 August 2016

    Burnley 0-0 Swansea

If Burnley are going to stay up then they need Andre Gray to start firing. The reigning Championship player of the year smashed in 25 goals last season, but he has hardly had a kick in the opening 40 minutes of this one.

He has had one half chance, blazing high and wide of the Swansea goal.

Stoke having their first decent spell of the game and Boro forward Gaston Ramirez has to head the ball out from under his crossbar after Victor Valdes cleared the ball into Alvaro Negredo's face.

Middlesbrough don't look like a team that has just been promoted. They are getting a lot of players forward and they're good to watch.

  17. Postpublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 13 August 2016

    Middlesbrough 1-0 Stoke

Stoke have their third shot of the game, all off target, as Marko Arnautovic cuts in from the left and blazes over. Frustration already for the Potters.

Tottenham's season may start when Mousa Dembele is available again.

With Dembele starting, Spurs lost just once in the Premier League last season but they lost five of nine games when he was absent.

Both teams are getting into the final third and then thinking 'what shall we do?' It falls apart for both teams. It's very much like a basketball game. You have it and then we have it.

  20. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 15:37 British Summer Time 13 August 2016

    Middlesbrough 1-0 Stoke

Middlesbrough almost double their lead against Stoke as Gaston Ramirez absolutely lashes a shot across Shay Given's goal but sees it hit the post and go wide.

A really bright start from Aitor Karanka's side.
