More from West Ham boss Slaven Bilic: "Diego Costa had already been booked. it was not reckless or deliberate but it was quite late, the ball had come. He could have been booked again and so a red card. I am not frustrated because of that, I am frustrated because of the late goal.

"We have to wait on Andre Ayew, it is a thigh injury and we will find out after the scan tomorrow."

  3. Chelsea were the better sidepublished at 22:34 British Summer Time 15 August 2016

    Chelsea 2-1 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic: "When you lose a game and concede late, of course you are disappointed. Apart from the first 15 minutes til we equalised, they were much better than us. They were better on the ball, in pressing and much more aggressive than us. They had the individual class of Eden Hazard, Diego Costa and Willian.

"We came back into the game, we played well after 1-1 but we made the mistake in the middle of the park. We gave the ball away and conceded a cheap goal."

Plenty of people unhappy on Twitter that Diego Costa was allowed to stay on the pitch after his "tackle" on Adrian.

He was lucky to still be on to score the winner, to be honest.

Chelsea captain John Terry: "It is very important for us to get off to get off to a good start. We did not start off or finish well last year. That is the fight and commitment we want. We dug in in the London derby and that is great for the management.

"Eden Hazard is up there with the best in the world. We relied on him too much last year, he cannot do it on his own.

"To ourselves, to our supporters and to our friends and family, we will slowly get there. The consistency is important, the winning start was vital."

It is clear to see how well Eden Hazard and Diego Costa have played, they have started the season very well

It is a good start for the manager, the fans are right behind him and you can see the galvanising effect it has.

West Ham worked hard, Dimitri Payet coming on improved them but there was only one winner in Chelsea today.

Oscar got the message tonight, he was in and out of possession but there was so much tenacity to his game. Every time N'Golo Kante made a challenge, the crowd gave a big cheer.

Antonio Conte celebrated like he won the Premier League, it is infectious. Chelsea already look better.
