From a City set-piece, Fernandho fires a low volley towards the bottom corner that is saved by the diving keeper, who is quick enough to then dive at the feet of Nicolas Otamendi to block his goalbound effort from point-blank range. That would surely have been game over had it gone in.

Goal! No! Offside. Marcus Rashford's shot finds the net, but the deflection off the clearly offside Zlatan Ibrahimovic means the effort is ruled out. City fans can swallow their hearts.

A decade ago, Patrice Evra was substituted at half-time against Manchester City on his full Manchester United debut.

He turned into a United great, so Henrikh Mkhitaryan should not be too disheartened today.

But the Armenian was clearly struggling to cope with today's game.

Marcus Rashford has not struggled with anything in an amazing few months, so it will be interesting to see what impact he has as Mkhitaryan's replacement.

Fernando's presence looked to have stemmed the waves of United attacks. City are holding on to possession much better. The sacrifice is less of a presence in attack when they do move forward.
