David de Gea to the rescue. From a City set-piece, Fernandho fires a low volley towards the bottom corner that is saved by the diving keeper, who is quick enough to then dive at the feet of Nicolas Otamendi to block his goalbound effort from point-blank range. That would surely have been game over had it gone in.

Goal! No! Offside. Marcus Rashford's shot finds the net, but the deflection off the clearly offside Zlatan Ibrahimovic means the effort is ruled out. City fans can swallow their hearts.

A decade ago, Patrice Evra was substituted at half-time against Manchester City on his full Manchester United debut.

He turned into a United great, so Henrikh Mkhitaryan should not be too disheartened today.

But the Armenian was clearly struggling to cope with today's game.

Marcus Rashford has not struggled with anything in an amazing few months, so it will be interesting to see what impact he has as Mkhitaryan's replacement.

Another chance for Zlatan. Fellaini's flick-on falls to the Swede but he doesn't connect properly with his swinging boot and the ball flies wide.

Mexx: I think removing Iheanacho was a tactical error on Pep's side.. They're relying only on counter attacks now.

Fernando's presence looked to have stemmed the waves of United attacks. City are holding on to possession much better. The sacrifice is less of a presence in attack when they do move forward.

For someone whose big selling point was his work with the ball at his feet, Claudio Bravo has been a bag of nerves today. Spread nothing but uncertainty through Manchester City's defence.

De Bruyne has not been as prominent this half as the first. However, he gets in down the right but can't beat De Gea with his stabbed shot from an angle. First sight of goal for City in a while.

For Joe Hart, wherever he is watching this game, there must be a delicious feeling of irony.

Claudio Bravo has this reputation as being a keeper with great feet but twice now he's nearly been dispossessed of the ball and given a goal away.

Sho Rahman: That's a 100% penalty. Bravo went in studs first there. It's a red as well.

ibayoomisore: This ball-playing goalkeeper will be the ruin of Manchester City. Save the date!

Paul lummis: HOW IS THAT NOT A PENALTY?!?!? Absolute garbage officiating from Clattenburg!

Big calls for a home penalty as Antonio Valencia's cross from the right strikes Nicolas Otamendi in the box. Clatts waves away the appeals.

This is really entertaining. United are giving as good as they get, unlike the one-sided first half.

This could end up Jonathan Woodgate Real Madrid levels of horror debuts.
