Manchester United have turned up with a game plan but you have to play football when you win the ball. They are not creating, they're just trying to stop Man City.

City seem a yard ahead, both in play and in thought.

City look calm and confident. United have offered nothing to hurt them yet. Nothing to make them alter a game plan that is doing a superb job of controlling this game.

As a representation of the balance of play so far, Pep Guardiola shields the ball behind his back on the touchline as Wayne Rooney scrambles desperately around him to get it back.

    Man Utd 0-1 Man City

Manchester United's fans have been left stunned by that goal from Kevin de Bruyne after they had made such a bright start - and it was the sort of soft goal that will leave Jose Mourinho fuming.

De Bruyne simply reacted quicker than the dawdling Danny Blind to a routine through ball. There is now a spring in Manchester City's step after a slightly edgy opening.

At the start of the season, Pep Guardiola got his full-backs to station themselves in front of Manchester City's central defenders and pushed Raheem Sterling and Nolito wider to the touchline.

Today, the full-backs are being asked to hold the wing positions, with Nolito in particular looking for space inside.

United have been struggling to cope and the defensive anxiety filtered through to coping with a pure route one attack which led to the visitors' opener.

United are being denied any time on the ball. Zlatan has two men on him before he has time to think about bringing the ball down. His efforts do win United a corner, but as with most situations in this first quarter, City come out on top to clear.

Jack Parkes: Silva just won a header against Pogba. Say what you want about tactics but City simply look hungrier.

Emmanuel Ayodele: Manchester City playing like home team at the moment.

Femi John Atoyebi: First blood! Well deserved lead by MCFC. MUFC clearly bullied!

Daniel Woodley: That is shambolic defending by Blind! Just what went through his head? Chris Smalling must be thinking "how am I on the bench?"

Take nothing away from Kevin de Bruyne there. Daley Blind didn't make a decision and didn't get the ball away. Great touch from the City winger, then he gave the keeper the eyes and buried it.

City deserve that - they have been on the front foot throughout and United are reeling.

    Kevin de Bruyne

This was coming. City have looked to be precise with their passing but this is route one. A long ball forward is flicked on by Kelechi Iheanacho and Daley Blind hesitates, allowing De Bruyne to nip in and give himself just David de Gea to beat, which he does with aplomb with a low strike from 18 yards.

Tom Dobbyne: If MUFC could get the ball for longer than 5 seconds that would be great.

Michael Devlin: If Jesse doesn't hold onto the ball a bit better, he'll be off the pitch before halftime.

Ryan Giggs is here too, with no direct involvement in a Manchester derby for the first time since 1991. He is sitting next to long-time team-mate Michael Carrick, who has not been picked for today's game.

As soon as United get on to the ball they are trying to break extremely quickly. That Paul Pogba effort is just the sort of thing Mourinho will have had his players working on all week.

But it's all City at the minute - Manchester United cannot get on the ball.
