    England 0-0 Lithuania

When training ground set-pieces go wrong...

A short free-kick about 30 yards out is dinked by the outside of Dele Alli's boot towards Ryan Bertrand who bombs into the Lithuania box from deep. Too much beef. Goal-kick.

  2. Postpublished at 6 mins

    England 0-0 Lithuania

Lithuania keeper Ernestas Setkus gets his mitts on the ball for the first time. But it is not a 'save'. Eric Dier's angled ball from the left is easily gathered.

    England 0-0 Lithuania

Not much to tell you about yet. England are refusing to let Lithuania have a kick, but it is all around the halfway line at the moment.

Oh, and continuing with our Peaky Blinders comparisons... Lithuania coach Edgaras Jankauskas has been to see the barber today. His hair is looking as sharp as a 1920s Brummie gang member.

England, as you would expect, are hogging the ball in the early stages. Lithuania sitting deep. So deep they're almost on Wembley Way.

  8. KICK-OFFpublished at 17:05 British Summer Time 26 March 2017

    England 0-0 Lithuania

England opt for a two-man kick-off! Thought that was as redundant as the golden goal. Jermain Defoe and Dele Alli get the ball rolling.

Big roar of appreciation from the England fans as Jermain Defoe's name is read out. Gareth Southgate will be looking to him to provide attacking ruthlessness today.

A huge cheer follows the referee's whistle signalling the end of the minute's silence, the England players going into one final huddle.

Anthem time. Lithuania's dainty ditty pumps out of the Wembley sound system, their players turning to clap all sides of the stadium afterwards.

Then it is God Save the Queen. Joe Hart has obviously been watching Gigi Buffon over in Italy. Eyes closed, vocal cords stretching, lungs bursting as he takes over lead vocals.

England are being captained by Joe Hart tonight, but the goalkeeper steps aside to let Jermain Defoe - accompanied by terminally-ill Sunderland fan Bradley Lowery as mascot - led the players out.

Little Bradley covers his ears as the noise of 80,000-plus people greets him. Awwww.

Lithuania manager Edgaras Jankauskas is hoping his side can take inspiration from Iceland and haunt England with another upset.

The 42-year-old's Lithuania are currently ranked 107th in the world, 93 places below England.

"Iceland would be a great example to follow, but it will be an extremely tough game for us," said former striker Jankauskas.

"There are many examples where not necessarily the favourites win the game. We know we play against top, top players, representing the best league in the world."

Cam Wood: I think this team will do great. A mix of experienced players and youth. COME ON ENGLAND!!

Nii: Nothing exciting about today matches for Group F. It's simply top 3 meet bottom 3. I expect no change in the table.

Andrew Priestley: Good to see Southgate planning for the future with England, by playing Jermain Defoe up front! And you ask why England are poor.

England's defeat in Germany was their first in four games under former defender Gareth Southgate.

And Paul Scholes reckons the Three Lions have a lot to look forward to under his old team-mate.

"I really liked Gareth when I played with him," Scholes said. "He was good with the young lads... he's been successful with England which not many players have been, getting to the semi-finals of Euro 96.

"Now we've got a passionate man in charge, he likes to play young players which is good. Hopefully the future is bright under him."

A very sunny Sunday afternoon atmosphere at Wembley for the World Cup qualifier between England and Lithuania - Gareth Southgate's first game at Wembley since being appointed as permanent successor to Sam Allardyce.

He is looking very relaxed standing on the touchline in his waistcoat, jacket off, as he watches England go through their warm-up.
