Christian Reilly: A 34 year old striker leading the line? Doesn't really bode well for Russia 2018, does it?

Matt Harding: Rashford for Defoe and that is one young starting XI - good signs for the future... (although we've said that before).

Darren W: That's the best team we can muster today... shows how backwards we have gone. No strength in depth at all.

Richard:  Barkley on the bench is another insult to him but, from an Everton point of view, I'm delighted.

On the tributes to Graham Taylor: "The one regret is that I hope he understood how well revered he was. Hopefully this is a special day for his family."

Scotland are four points adrift of Slovenia, the visitors lying second behind leaders England - who host Lithuania on Sunday - in  World Cup qualifying Group F.

And Gordon Strachan's side, who are 16 places below Slovenia in the world rankings in 67th place, have gone four games without a win.

Will Strach's P45 be in the post if his team loses tonight?

A win will be just the ticket for Norn Iron tonight. A ticket to the 2018 World Cup play-offs perhaps? The Northern Irish are second in Group C, way adrift of leaders Germany, but a win against Norway will consolidate their place behind the world champions.

Josh Magennis looks likely to join Corry Evans and Aaron Hughes in missing Northern Ireland's World Cup qualifier against Norway on Sunday.

Charlton's Magennis, 27, is said to be "extremely doubtful" because of a hamstring problem while Evans (groin) and Hughes (calf) are ruled out.

Magennis' injury and Kyle Lafferty's ongoing struggles at Norwich may lead to Conor Washington starting in attack.

QPR striker Washington, 24, has scored in both his starts at Windsor Park.

England will face a packed Lithuania defence today - so just the occasion for an expert marksman to make his first international appearance since they faced Chile in November 2013.

Sunderland's striker may by 34 but his Premier League pedigree remains undimmed and he is part of an attacking selection by manager Gareth Southgate.

No surprise to see John Stones back alongside Burnley's Michael Keane with Gary Cahill suspended and Manchester United pair Phil Jones and Chris Smalling injured.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Raheem Sterling will provide the width as England go for goals.

Suddenly England managers pick players on form and it’s a surprise.

Dele Alli will play just off sole striker Jermain Defoe, just like he does at Tottenham alongside Harry Kane.

There's Raheem Sterling on one side of the attacking midfield and Adam Lallana will drift from the other side.

Eric Dier will be the main sitting midfielder, but he might drop into central defence to make a three if the full-backs want to attack more.

Andy White:  Considering England's current identity is abject failure, any other identity would be an improvement.

Zezti:  If Barkley, one of the best performers from the club topping the form table, doesnt start then I'll lose all faith in Southgate.

Jay:  Super excited to see Defoe score lots of goals, carry England to the WC and, in line with tradition, fail miserably at the WC
