  1. goal

GOAL (McShane)published at 16:17 British Summer Time 20 August 2016

    Reading 2-2 Brighton

What a game we have on our hands at the Madejski Stadium.

Paul McShane has brought Reading level after showing a seriously clinical touch after the ball was played in from the byline from Garath McCleary.

    Quote Message

What a finish! I tell you what, any striker would have been proud of that. McShane is running towards the ball, so he's got to get a good connection and keep it down. He's wrapped his foot around it and bent the ball just inside Stockdale's near post. Alan Shearer would have been delighted with that finish.

Oliver Burke may only be 19, but he already has his second goal of the season to put Forest ahead against Wigan and it's a pretty darn good one too.

The Scotland international chests down Chris Cohen's pass and strikes it into the goal.

    QPR 0-2 Preston

Preston had failed to score in the league until today, but they have now doubled their advantage at Loftus Road.

North End are claiming Callum Robinson got the final touch after a fine move, but it will probably go down as a Nedum Onuoha own goal.

Rangers bring on Conor Washington for some firepower up front.

  5. goal

GOAL (Mason)published at 16:09 British Summer Time 20 August 2016

    Birmingham 1-1 Wolves

A superb goal from Joe Mason has brought Wolves level in the West Midlands derby at St Andrew's. He turns and whips in a wonderful strike, a goal not even his manager Walter Zenga would have saved in his prime.

Meanwhile, Alfie Mawson has brought Barnsley level at Huddersfield.

    Quote Message

Wolves have cut through Birmingham on a number of occasions this afternoon but this time they have applied a finish from a much more difficult angle. There have been two great strikes in this game.

GOAL (Knockaert)published at 16:03 British Summer Time 20 August 2016

    Reading 1-2 Brighton

No wonder Mick Gooding was not confident...

Anthony Knockaert has put Brighton in front, connecting powerfully with a left-wing cross after great work from Sam Baldock.

The only reason I'm not more confident in Reading is because I've seen all the Reading games so far. The opposition always play better in the second half while Reading play better in the first. I'm hoping Reading do well in the second half, but I'm not sure.

Goals are order of the day in League Two.

Bolton, who came into today as the only team with a 100% win record in the EFL, are behind at home to Fleetwood through David Ball's strike.

Scunthorpe are sitting top currently as they lead Gillingham 3-0, while Junior Brown got Shrewsbury off the mark with their first goal of the season to equalise against Chesterfield.

Charlton, Coventry and Oldham are also ahead in their games on the road.

    Bristol City 0-1 Newcastle United

    Dwight GayleImage source, Rex Features

BBC Sport's Brendon Mitchell at Ashton Gate:

"Over the 45 minutes, there's not been a huge amount in this - just the classiest of finishes from the clinical Dwight Gayle. "Bristol City have had more of the ball since conceding but, other than the odd flash from Lee Tomlin and Luke Freeman, their best work has come too far from Newcastle's goal to make a really compelling case for the score being level."

    Ryan SessegnonImage source, Rex Features

Ryan Sessegnon is just 16. That's an age when most kids have just finished their GCSEs. But he has just scored a goal in the EFL.

Sessegnon is free in the area after some great work from Sone Aluko, and the youngster tucks home. He has been linked with a move away from Craven Cottage and on this showing you can see why.

    Blackburn 1-1 Burton

Burton's record signing Jackson Irvine scored his first goal for the club in their win over Sheffield Wednesday in midweek and he's found the net again to bring them level at Blackburn.

That's the 15th goal in a Championship game involving Burton this campaign. If you want goals, watch the Brewers.

Preston, who took the lead at Loftus Road through Jermaine Beckford's 21st-minute goal, are on top against Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's side.

Full-back Tommy Spurr is the latest to trouble the Rangers defence but he strikes wide after a great overlap.

    Reading 1-1 Brighton

After two early goals in the match at the Madejski Stadium it's all quietened down a little bit.

Reading are probably the side on top at the moment but can't find another way past a side who had not conceded in the EFL this campaign before today.
