The game has gone now, as a spectacle and a contest. Scotland need to score next and score soon if this is not going to end up as a heavy defeat.

It could get ugly for Scotland trying to push on. They are not quick enough to deal with that space at the back.

They will get destroyed by England.

A few unthreatening missiles - a beer can, an inflatable football - are thrown on to the pitch and Joe Hart asks the crowd to calm down.

    Northern Ireland 2-0 Azerbaijan

BBC Sport's Alvin McCaig in Belfast: "This is far from over - half-time substitute Deniz Yilmaz is put clear but he is denied by the advancing Michael McGovern and then Arif Dashdemirov fires just over. Azerbaijan are threatening for the first time.

"The 'Green and White Army' have been singing that Will Grigg song (you know the one) throughout the game and he comes on for Kyle Lafferty. Cue the song being belted out even louder!"

We've had our first goals of the evening at the Stade de France in Group A.

Sweden took the lead through Emil Forsberg in the 55th minute, but Paul Pogba, the world's most expensive player of course, was having none of that and levelled just three minutes later. France then hit the front on 65 minutes through West Ham's Dimitri Payet.

Elsewhere, Germany are now 5-0 up in San Marino - Serge Gnabry and Jonas Hector each adding their second of the match - Slovenia lead 1-0 in Malta and Czech Republic are 2-0 up on Norway.

There's no doubt this has been a better Scotland performance than the previous two but there is no hiding from the emphatic nature of the scoreline, which could yet get worse. Could we be witnessing the final minutes of Gordon Strachan's time as Scotland manager?

England's second goal from Adam Lallana looks to have broken Scotland - now this could get very messy after Gary Cahill made it three.

The bottom line is that England have taken their chances and Scotland have not had the quality to accept theirs.

Damage limitation now for Scotland. And for manager Gordon Strachan.

Thousands of white scarves are twirling in the air now, like a protest at the Bernabeu, as England fan enjoy this scoreline.

Have they played well? No. Are they going to win? Almost certainly yes.

Not a clever tackle from Danny Rose, into and through Robert Snodgrass, a man who has had more than his fair share of injuries. Thankfully the Hull man is OK. Rose is let off without sanction too.

When you look at the back four of Scotland one thing you would think they could rely on is getting a head on the ball.

It was a great delivery and a fantastic header but they are three goals Gordon Strachan would not have expected to concede tonight.

A hat-trick of headers and that's the most disappointing. A simple near-post header. There is no way back. It's desperate. England have not had to work hard for their goals. It's so disappointing.

    Gary Cahill

He's had a bit of a stinker at times tonight but Gary Cahill ends the night as a contest with a flashing header at the near post. Wayne Rooney's corner is whipped in, Cahill's movement is good and he beats Craig Gordon with a powerful header.

Three headers, three goals. Probably three points.

Gareth Southgate once famously criticised Sven Goran Eriksson's half-time team talk at the World Cup, saying England "needed Churchill but got Iain Duncan Smith".

I wonder how vocal Gareth is in the dressing room?

England's interim manager Gareth Southgate went down on one knee and pumped his fist theatrically as Adam Lallana's header went in. In that moment he moved closer to being full-time England manager.

A long way back for Scotland now. They had two good chances but could not take either of them.
