Wigan boss Warren Joyce got off the mark with a draw against Barnsley that secures his first point as manager. Neither side troubled the scoreboard in game which saw Adam Bogdan injured and Jussi Jaaskelainen - at the age of 41 - come on as replacement.

Wigan Athletic boss Warren Joyce said:

"I thought we did deserve the point. The way we defended, the way the lads put their bodies on the line second half, I thought it would be a travesty if we didn't get something out of the game.

"It was a good performance bearing in mind we came into the game, having lost one player this morning (to illness).

"The keeper (Adam Bogdan) gets stretchered off too, it throws a couple of curveballs and we've had to react and deal with the situation well.

Nottingham Forest manager Philippe Montanier told Sky Sports:

"I'm very happy because it's our first victory away.

"We were more efficient to score, we had 12 shots and nine on target.

"We showed great defensive mentality, in the second half we suffered, Ipswich took a lot of risk, but the most important thing was to show defensive mentality to kill the game."

Neither Barnsley or Wigan were able to find the net in a stalemate that leaves the Tykes in mid-table. Both teams were promoted last season but the Yorkshire club has settled in better to life in the Championship thus far.

Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom said:

"My only sort of criticism would be that we didn't work the keeper enough today. I thought we controlled the game from start to finish and we're disappointed we didn't get the three points there, definitely.

"Today showed how far as a club we've come, against a team that came up with us and romped our league.

"Their set-up and line-up, playing without a striker, a centre-midfielder at right midfield and the first sub is a left-back, so that shows that they came here paying us the utmost respect, trying to nullify us, which they did."

Huddersfield's early season form has ebbed away, leaving the Terriers with four defeats in six. Philip Billing's goal was good enough to win any game here but they ended up with nothing - although they do remain fourth.

Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner said:

The away form isn't worrying. The form is good, we just need to sort out the set-pieces.

"We've scored two goals, but come away with nothing? We just need to keep on working on it and hope it improves.

"We have to blame ourselves for how easy we gave the goals away."

Nottingham Forest striker Britt Assombalonga told Sky Sports:

"I've got to take a precaution. I was feeling a bit tight [hamstring] so I didn't want to carry on and make it worse. But it's nothing.

"Winning 2-0 away from home and getting a clean sheet is a stepping stone for us and we want to carry on from it."

It's a first clean sheet for Nottingham Forest this season, as well as their first away win.

The result takes them up to 18th in the table, just one place below their opponents tonight.

Boos ring out around Portman Road as the referee calls an end to proceedings.

It's now just one win in six home games for Ipswich, who slide to 17th in the table.

Nottingham Forest were deserved victors, never looking like taking less than three points from the game from the moment Britt Assombalonga put them one goal up after just 17 seconds.

Four minutes of added time are all that is left to be played at Portman Road.

Ipswich haven't looked like pulling a goal back for some time.

Mick McCarthy cuts an unhappy figure on the touchline - his side have been outplayed in all areas tonight by a side which hadn't won a league game away from home this season.

There's only one minute, plus added time, for Ipswich to mount an improbable comeback.

Nottingham Forest have done nothing going forward for the last ten minutes or so, but they're almost handed a third goal on a plate.

A long ball forward isn't headed away properly, allowing Apostolos Vellios to rifle a shot on goal, which is hit straight at Bartosz Bialkowski in the Ipswich goal.

The visitors make their final change of the match with five minutes to go, Thomas Lam brought off with Jorge Grant coming on.

Neil Warnock's Cardiff picked up their third win in six since his arrival in early October as replacement for Paul Trollope. Three first-half goals were enough to see off the Terriers, who scored a peach through Philip Billing in vain.

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock said:

"It's games like these that keep me out of retirement. You can't replicate the feeling when you hear the final whistle and get a result like that

"Everyone gave everything on the pitch - there were no shirkers.

"It was just a cracking Championship game today. I would've taken a point before the game started."

Just watching that Tom Lawrence appeal back, if there was any contact, it was only very faint. Probably a good decision from the referee not to award the penalty.

Apostolos Vellios is isolated up front for Nottingham Forest. You can't help but feel it's only a matter of time until the visitors concede if they don't keep hold of the ball a little more.

Ipswich win a free-kick midway inside the Forest half, but Luke Varney can't get enough power on his header and it's easily saved by Vladimir Stojkovic.

Varney is causing a few more problems for the Forest defence, but with less than 15 minutes to play plus added time, the hosts need a goal quickly.

Tom Lawrence goes down inside the visitors' box and appeals for a penalty. It's hard to tell if there was any contact.

Reading maintained their impressive form, recording a fourth straight win against Burton to climb to third in the Championship. Dominic Samuel, Danny WIlliams and an own-goal from John Brayford sealed the points.

Reading boss Jaap Stam said:

"Yes, it's a lovely position to be in. It's good to win games and it's good to get points because there are a lot of games to be played in this league this season.

"Hopefully we can stay up there, but we're not aiming for that third or fourth spot yet. We're not focused on getting into a certain position in the table.

"We just want to do well, we want to perform. Then towards the end of the season, maybe we can then be realistic about looking at where we can end up. I keep repeating myself, there's a long way to go."

Ipswich are committing ever more bodies forward, and Nottingham Forest are looking ever more dangerous on the counter.

Eric Lichaj moves to the left wing for the latest foray forward - he looks to have made some room for a shot as he cuts onto his stronger right foot, but a Tractor Boys defender gets back to make a crucial block.

The hosts make their final change of the match, striker Luke Varney coming on for full-back Josh Emmanuel.

It's almost game over as a pass intended for Apostolos Vellios is deflected into the path of Pajtim Kasami, who thunders a shot against the post.

Bartosz Bialkowski had no chance in the Ipswich goal.

Apostolos Vellios gets an early chance to run at the Ipswich defence, with only two defenders ahead of him.

Ben Osborn is streaking forward behind him and to his left, but Vellios doesn't look up and spot him, so the attack fizzles out.

Daniel Pinillos comes off as Forest make their second change; former Chelsea and Hamburg defender Michael Mancienne is on as his replacement.

Norwich City's defeat by QPR at Loftus Road extended their losing run to four games. The dismissal of Martin Olsson after 90 seconds was a crucial turning point at an early stage, leaving the Canaries with a disadvantage that Rangers took advantage of to secure the points.

Norwich City boss Alex Neil spoke to BBC Radio Norfolk:

"The players we've got are the players we've got, they've shown already - we won seven out of eight before, we're going through a slump and we've got to be strong enough to come through that.

"Everyone's working hard and I'm an honest and open man, I'll take any questions (at the club's AGM).

"Defensively we weren't good enough, but the first goal was nothing to do with us being down to 10 men. When you go down to 10 men and concede a goal it makes the rest of the job really difficult."
