Five-year-old Sunderland fan Bradley Lowery, who is seriously ill with neuroblastoma, has been named joint-winner of Match of the Day's Goal of the Month award after his penalty against Chelsea in December.

He received more than 250,000 Christmas cards from the general public. What an inspirational little lad he is.

Sunderland boss David Moyes is "really pleased" after this struggling side twice came from behind to draw with Liverpool.

Hull City

Hull City manager Mike Phelan: "We didn't carry out the basics of marking at set pieces. Everyone has a man and marker. If you switch of you get punished when you're in a dominant situation. We played an excellent first half but within five minutes the game was changed. 

"It shouldn't happen. We should be a lot more disciplined and focused. You have to do the dirty bits at times. Taking responsibility, marking your men and seeing it through. If you are not going to do that you are going to suffer."

One to watch - Tom Davies impressed for Everton against Southampton today. The 18-year-old provided the assist for Everton's third.

West Bromwich Albion

West Brom manager Tony Pulis: "We changed things around 30 minutes into the first half. Their shape was more potent than ours. As soon as we did that we got into the game more. After that they didn't create a lot and it's another great three points for us. 

"We are delighted to be on 29 points, it's been a good year for us. Now we need to bring a couple in to improve the group and give everyone am lift again."

Here's the exchange between Pep Guardiola and the BBC's Damian Johnson after Manchester City's win today. It's awkward stuff. 

Damian Johnson: "What was your view of the red card for Fernandinho?"

Pep Guardiola: "You are the journalist. Not me."

DJ: "You're the manager. I'm sure the fans would like to know."

PG: "Ask the referee - not me."

DJ: "Are you concerned that's his third red card this season. Is there a discipline problem with him?"

PG: "We will accept. Like I said before, the team with more ball possession we have always sending off. I have to understand the rules here in England. I know you are specialist but I have to understand it."

DJ: "So the interpretation is perhaps different in England?"

PG: "Of course yes. Around the world our keeper in the box is fouled, not here. I have to understand that. Claudio Bravo is fouled."

DJ: "It's his fault?"

PG: "He is fouled. Here not - that's OK but I have to understand that."

DJ: "You don't seem that happy that you've won."

PG: "More than you would believe. More than you would believe I am happy."

DJ: "You're not showing it."

PG: "I'm so happy believe me. I'm so happy. Happy new year."

DJ: "Are Manchester City in the title race?"

PG: "Yesterday no. Why today are we in the title race?"

DJ: "Thanks Pep."

PG: "My pleasure."

Southampton boss Claude Puel, speaking to BBC Sport: "It is unfair. It was a balanced game but the first goal was difficult to accept. Players were tired. They played two days ago and it was difficult to finish this game but the spirit and the attitude of the team was good. 

"I am sorry for the players because they did good work and it is a shame to concede three goals in this game. For the moment we are unlucky."

Everton boss Ronald Koeman, speaking to BBC Sport: "The tempo was higher in the second half, we created opportunities to score and you see the final result.

"When Enner Valencia came in it was not just about his goal, it was his whole performance - we needed that pace in the second half. 

"Keeping a clean sheet is always important. We did well defensively. 

"I am busy with all the fixtures we have and maybe the board will be busy to bring the players in."

This is how it looks at the bottom of the table with Sunderland a point from safety after that draw with Liverpool, although Crystal Palace are in action tomorrow when they host Swansea. Hull City remain on 13 points after losing at West Brom.

Liverpool

Liverpool goalscorer Sadio Mane, who also conceded a penalty: “Honestly, I thought the ball hit my hand. The guy pushed me, I lost my control and the ball hit my hand. 

"Yes, I would say (it was a penalty).

“We have to look forward to the next game. We can accept this one point.”

Manchester City

A slightly tetchy interview from Pep Guardiola with Match of the Day.

He has been asked if it was a mistake not to start with Sergio Aguero and David Silva.

"Sure it was a big mistake, you are right."

But you made the change...

"Yes. I am intelligent."

The latter possibly said with a touch of irony.

The final Premier League game of the day is under way as West Ham host Manchester United.

Sunderland

Sunderland manager David Moyes: “I expect them to get results, but I’m really pleased after the few days we’ve had. That’s their job. We didn’t play well (against Burnley) and what they have done is show how well they can do.

“I thought we did quite well, matched Liverpool’s energy for long periods of the game and deserved a draw. We had big chances as well.

“I never thought we were out of it, the important thing was to not concede a third goal. In the end we got a deserved penalty kick.

“Towards the end of the season we are going to have to pick up a lot of results, today was a tough draw and we have to make sure we win at home – that’s key.”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to BBC Sport: “I am not able to explain it because I don’t know exactly what I saw, my team were fighting but I wasn’t sure if they could do it.

“We can play better football but I’m not sure if you can play better with that break. I don’t know how it feels when you have to do the things you have to do today.

“I told the players if nobody wanted to play I would never speak about and not tell anyone, but nobody came and that was a good thing. About the football we played, I actually have no idea how to speak about it.”

On Sunderland’s second penalty: “There was no foul before the free kick for the second penalty. You need a little bit of luck, but Sunderland worked hard too and maybe they deserved it.”

Here's how it looks at the top of the Premier League. Liverpool can only reduce the gap on leaders Chelsea to five points after that draw with Sunderland, while Manchester City make up ground on the top two by beating Burnley.

Souhampton debutant Jack Stephens: "These things happen. It is a bad result for us and we just pick ourselves up and move on.

"It's not easy but I don't think we can use that as an excuse. We just pick ourselves up and go again. 

"I thought the game was quite even, not many chances, but the first goal was important because as soon as that went in we had to take more risks. Second one was late on and game over and the third one was a kick in the teeth."

Doncaster are the new leaders of League Two, beating Stevenage 1-0 and going a point ahead of Plymouth, who lost by the same scoreline at Barnet.

Carlisle could have gone top, but they suffered a 3-1 reverse at Grimsby.

There wee big wins for Cambridge United and Exeter City who knocked off Notts County and Leyton Orient respectively with 4-0 scorelines.
