  1. Postpublished at 15:39 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Everton 0-0 Southampton

Good instinctive save by Joel Robles as Jay Rodriguez's cross deflects off Ashley Williams. Closest chance we've had for a while in a pretty even contest.

  2. 'Encouraging from Sturridge'published at 15:39 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

Ash: We may lose Sadio Mane to the Africa Cup of Nations but it's encouraging to see Daniel Sturridge getting back in form.

Steve Howes: Don't see him as a quitter but maybe Pep will have to return to a league without competition, maybe France, to rebuild his reputation.

Joseph Tolworthy: I'm kind of hoping Sunderland are relegated to end these endless tortuous seasons.

    Sunderland 1-1 Liverpool

Sunderland were hammered 4-1 by Burnley in their last outing but they are giving Liverpool a decent game.

Daniel Sturridge remains Liverpool's biggest threat and has just tested Vito Mannone from outside the area.

  4. 'Harsh red card'published at 15:37 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Man City 0-0 Burnley

    John Hartson
    Ex-Wales striker on Final Score

I don't think it is a red card, I think it is harsh.

His feet are up, but when he actually makes contact with the ball his feet are on the ground. It's a little soft and Fernandinho should know you can't go in with two feet, but for me it is just a yellow card.

I think he makes contact with the ball and the player when his feet are firmly on the ground. It's more of a block tackle.

  5. Postpublished at 15:37 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Man City 0-0 Burnley

A four-match ban coming Fernandinho's way. That red card was his third in six games after he was sent off against Borussia Monchengladbach and Chelsea.

Burnley immediately look to capitalise as Ashley Barnes gets on the end of Johann Berg Gudmundsson's header, but shoots over.

Paul Charles: C'mon Sunderland! This is already a far better game than I was expecting!

Paul Walmsley: Can see Liverpool dropping points here after beating Man City. These games always a banana skin.

Stuart Kerr: Where would Hull be without Robert Snodgrass? Bottom, probably, instead of second from bottom

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 15:33 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    West Brom 0-1 Hull

It goes from bad to worse for West Brom. Jonny Evans is forced off with an injury. On comes Allan Nyom. The Baggies have yet to have a shot.

  8. CLOSE!published at 15:32 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Sunderland 1-1 Liverpool

A huge chance for Sunderland to take the lead. Jermain Defoe springs Liverpool's offside trap and is clean through - he is forced wide and the chance is gone. Will Sunderland be left to regret that?

  9. RED CARD - Fernandinho (Man City)published at 15:31 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Man City 0-0 Burnley

    Disaster for Manchester City!

They are down to 10 men as Fernandinho flies in on Johann Berg Gudmundsson, both feet up in the air as he goes for the challenge. Lee Mason immediately brandishes the red card.

There were already some rumblings of discontent from the home crowd, now the hosts have a real task on with a man down for the majority of the game.

  10. 'Snodgrass the shining light'published at 15:30 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    West Brom 0-1 Hull

    Danny Mills
    Ex-England defender on Final Score

Snodgrass is the real shining light in that side and if Hull are going to stay up it'll be because of him.

I know he has just signed a new contract, but Hull have to do everything to keep him.

  11. 'Definitely a penalty'published at 15:29 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Sunderland 1-1 Liverpool

    Danny Mills
    Ex-England defender on Final Score

It's definitely a penalty. He (Didier Ndong) goes through Wijnaldum and Klavan, Klavan sticks his leg out and it's a foul.

But what a penalty that is from Jermain Defoe, under pressure, it almost goes in off the post.

  12. Postpublished at 15:29 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Man City 0-0 Burnley

Manchester City are seeing plenty of the ball but not doing much with it in the final third. They are starting to build up a head of steam, but the danger is Andre Gray's pace on the counter. That almost proves the case as he gets between two defenders, but the flag's up for offside.

  13. Postpublished at 15:27 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Everton 0-0 Southampton

Southampton have the ball in the back of the net as Joel Robles punches a cross onto Jay Rodriguez and the ball deflects into the net. The linesman has his flag up for offside and it won't count.

    Sunderland 0-1 Liverpool

    John Hartson
    Ex-Wales striker on Final Score

It is shocking defending. Lovren finds himself unmarked in the Sunderland box and he is the first to react. He fires a volley into the ground and Daniel Sturridge pounces.

Sturridge gets a start and no surprise he puts Liverpool in front.

  16. PENALTY TO SUNDERLANDpublished at 15:24 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Sunderland 0-1 Liverpool

A golden chance for Sunderland to draw level as Didier N'Dong runs between Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan in the Liverpool area before being brought sent crashing by the latter.

  17. Football League updatepublished at 15:23 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

Almost 20 minutes gone in the Championship, 24 teams in action, zero goals, although Stefan Johansen has missed a penalty for Fulham against second-placed Brighton.

Big shock on the cards in League One as Bury - who have two points from their last 14 games - are ahead against leaders Sheffield United through Jacob Mellis. Fleetwood also lead at Shrewsbury.

In League Two, Colchester, Barnet and Exeter are all in front.

  18. Postpublished at 15:22 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Man City 0-0 Burnley

Tom Heaton is the busier of the two keepers as the Burnley shotstopper is tested again. He holds an effort from Yaya Toure after the midfielder had been found by Jesus Navas.
