On the face of it, a Manchester City slip up at home to Burnley seems highly unlikely but there's no hiding that they are not playing that well just now.

For all their possession in the defeat at Anfield, City created little and lacked the dynamism that a fully match-fit Sergio Aguero gives them - four weeks out left him looking understandably diminished.

Oddly, City have never won at home to Burnley in the Premier League (OK, they've only played them twice - both drawn), so should be a little wary.

With back-to-back wins over Middlesbrough and Sunderland, Burnley almost have a free hit here, in the sense they can afford to try their luck knowing that defeat is far from calamitous.

Liverpool ended 2016 still in touch with Chelsea and it's imperative they begin the new year in similar fashion.

The victory over Manchester City was another psychological boost, now they face a physical test with another game in less than 48 hours. Belief is building all the time, as is momentum, and they will be confident of a third win in a row on the road.

David Moyes will be desperate for some sort of Sunderland reaction, having labelled their defending in the defeat at Burnley as 'shambolic'.

The very least the Wearside public expect is evidence of effort and fight - they will need both in abundance against Jurgen Klopp's side.

So, what treats do we have in store over the course of the next three hours?

Two of the top five are in action. One manager is hoping to avoid being hit with a thumping New Year's headache by his former club. And what of West Brom? It could be nosebleed time for Baggies fans as their team could climb to seventh in the table.
