  1. 'I thought Sterling had dived'published at 16:25 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Man City 2-0 Burnley

    Danny Mills
    Ex-England defender on Final Score

Unbelievable, but just before that I thought Raheem Sterling had thrown himself to the ground and I said it was the worst dive I'd ever seen.

He actually stubs the ground, and it fools the goalkeeper. He kicks the floor, it wasn't a dive, it was a little bit lucky for City but a great finish from Aguero.

  2. EFL updatepublished at 16:25 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

Scott Hogan has levelled for Brentford at Birmingham in the Championship mid-table battle.

Cambridge United, in the League Two play-off hunt, are 3-0 up on strugglers Notts County courtesy of Luke Berry.

Second-placed Carlisle have been pegged back by Grimsby, with Omar Bogle making it 1-1.

    Everton 0-0 Southampton

We have a chance at Everton - Romelu Lukaku scuffs an effort well wide. Not the greatest of chances but after a long period of nothingness, we'll take what we can get.

  4. Postpublished at 16:24 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Sunderland 1-1 Liverpool

Around 25 minutes remaining at the Stadium of Light and Liverpool continue to pepper Sunderland's goal without success.

Six shots on target for the Reds - but they only have one goal.

  5. Postpublished at 16:22 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Everton 0-0 Southampton

It's as dull a game as you'll ever see at Goodison Park. No chances of note in this half, the congested fixture lists taking their toll on these two teams, who look very leggy.

    Sergio Aguero (63 mins)

    What a finish!

Beautiful strike by Sergio Aguero to double Manchester City's lead. It comes after Tom Heaton denies Raheem Sterling and the loose ball squirms wide for the onrushing Aguero, who swipes home from the tightest of angles, the ball hitting Matt Lowton's shoulder on its way in.

    Gareth McAuley (62 mins)

West Brom are moving up to seventh in the table as Gareth McAuley heads home from a corner. It strikes Sam Clucas, who is standing on the line, but Mark Clattenburg gives it. The Goal Decision System shows the ball did cross the line.

  8. 'City goal was coming'published at 16:17 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Man City 1-0 Burnley

    John Hartson
    Ex-Wales striker on Final Score

    The goal was coming.

Gael Clichy comes in on his wrong side if you like, on his right foot, and it's come through a crowd of bodies.

  9. Hull's 90s flashbackpublished at 16:16 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    West Brom 1-1 Hull City

It has now been 22 games in all competitions without a clean sheet for Hull City. The last time they went 22 was in January 1991. A long time ago - not a record you want to equal.

Some of you are wondering why January 1991 sounds important? The Simpsons had a No 1 hit in the UK charts with 'Do the Bartman'.

  10. CLOSE!published at 16:15 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Sunderland 1-1 Liverpool

How close was that? A terrific cross by Nathaniel Clyne into the Sunderland area and Sadio Mane is inches away from giving Liverpool the lead for the second time.

    Gael Clichy (58 mins)

An outburst of relief around the Etihad as 10-man Manchester City take the lead. Bacary Sagna's cross is headed away by Michael Keane but only as far as Gael Clichy, who works a yard of space for himself just inside the area and expertly steers his shot into the far corner.

  12. Goals in the Championshippublished at 16:14 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

A few big goals in the Championship.

Second-placed Brighton are a goal down - Lucas Piazon has put Fulham in front.

Bristol City could be ending a five-game losing run as Tammy Abraham scores from the spot for his second and a 2-0 lead over play-off hopefuls Reading.

Leeds are looking to move up to third and might well do it if they maintain the 1-0 lead Kyle Bartley has just given them over Rotherham.

Meanwhile, Ipswich are level with QPR courtesy of Tom Lawrence's 25-yard strike.

  13. 'Aguero froze'published at 16:14 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Man City 0-0 Burnley

    Danny Mills
    Ex-England defender on Final Score

Manchester City have had a great chance but Aguero just hesitated. Sterling had a chance and it came back off the goalkeeper and bizarrely Aguero froze.

It was a great opportunity to take the lead, but Burnley cleared.

  14. Postpublished at 16:13 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Man City 0-0 Burnley

The ball comes to Sergio Aguero, middle of the area, goalkeeper on the ground after a blocked shot. Surely a Manchester City goal? No, the striker takes too long to get his shot off and Burnley regroup to clear. A sharper Aguero would have smashed that home first time.

  15. 'Pep to prove doubters wrong'published at 16:12 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

Dale Gordon: Seems it is 'Get Pep' season....Pep will prove his doubters wrong.

Mat Parker: What happens to Pep if City fail to make the top four?

Joe Wedgwood: Utterly baffled by anti-Pep attitude in England. Ludicrous. 19 games, no miracles so we hammer the man? Pathetic.

  16. Postpublished at 16:12 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Everton 0-0 Southampton

Quiet start to the second half at Goodison Park. A promising move almost produces a chance for the hosts as Kevin Mirallas breaks away down the right, but his attempt to slip in Romelu Lukaku is snuffed out.

  17. Postpublished at 16:11 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Sunderland 1-1 Liverpool

Sunderland are defending deep as Liverpool dominate possession but the Reds have yet to test Vito Mannone this half.

By the way, Jermain Defoe has become the fourth player to score 10 or more goals in 10 different Premier League seasons.

The other three? Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard.

  18. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:08 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Sunderland 1-1 Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has reacted to Liverpool's first half display by making a change at the start of the second half. James Milner has been replaced by Alberto Moreno.

  19. Postpublished at 16:07 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Man City 0-0 Burnley

The fans have responded to Pep Guardiola's plea for more noise as they urge the City players on. The hosts get a free kick on the right, which Kevin de Bruyne bends towards the near post and Jeff Hendrick pokes behind as Sergio Aguero prepared to pounce.

  20. goal

GOAL - West Brom 1-1 Hullpublished at 16:05 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2017

    Chris Brunt (49 mins)

All Hull's hard work is undone by some of the shoddiest defending you are likely to see this season. Chris Brunt is left totally unmarked to head home West Brom's equalisier following Matt Phillips' corner.
