If that shot was on target, I'd suggest it should have been a penalty.
Watford 0-0 Tottenham
Danger for Watford as Christian Eriksen's fierce drive deflects off Etienne Capoue and slams into the sidenetting. Tottenham players appeal for handball and they have a fair shout. The ball struck Capoue's raised hand but referee Michael Oliver is not interested.

In selection, Walter Mazzari has certainly gone for physicality down the spine of his side.
You can see that with the wet conditions, Tottenham's players really need to make sure they're in control of that football, because Watford are right in their faces straight away.

Tottenham have the game's first shot on target as Son Heung-min tries his luck from 25 yards, but his effort is straight into Heurelho Gomes' hands.

Watford can't catch a break. Their injury list got a little bigger just before kick off as Camilo Zuniga was injured in the warm up. His replacement in the first XI, Odion Ighalo, looks eager as he gets the ball midway inside the Tottenham half and turns towards goal, but the ball is bouncing awkwardly and he can't keep it under control as he tries to get inside the area.

Luke in Bristol: Tottenham need to sign the real Vincent Janssen, not the Soldado tribute act who turned up.
Janssen will be hoping to make an impact from the bench to change some opinions today...

Plenty of eyes peeking out from under hoods in the stands as the two teams walk out onto the pitch. It's wet and windy in Watford today, hopefully the quality of football on show will make up for the inclement weather. It surely can't be any worse than the quality of the game that brought 2016 to a close. Liverpool versus Manchester City was certainly no classic.
Manchester United's Memphis Depay has just tweeted a video where along with wishing you a "positive" new year, he reflects on wearing a hat and taking a dive. Prepare to be slightly puzzled.

Harry Kane will make his 100th Premier League appearance today. He's featured in the league on 96 occasions for Tottenham, scoring 57 goals. His other three Premier League appearances were during a loan spell at Norwich.

Watford boss Walter Mazzarri will be keeping his fingers and toes crossed that his side don't pick up any more injuries today. The Hornets are without almost a full team's worth of players for this game and Mazzarri has named youngsters Charlie Rowan, Brandon Mason and Carl Stewart on the bench as a result.
Gareth Southgate has spent his New Year's Day morning chatting to Sportsweek and has provided some good insight into the mind of the England boss.
Southgate fears young players are not reaching their potential because they get "big money for achieving nothing".
"The very best players have that drive and that's why they get to the top," he said. "The concern is for any young player at an academy, who's not quite made it in the first team, but thinks they have because you get big money for having achieved nothing"

Mounir El-J: Arsenal don't need any signings; we need a manager to be smarter with rotating our players so they don't burn out as usual.
Hassan Mahmood: Manchester United need a solid central midfielder other than Herrera and Pogba in the long term. Carrick's time is nearly up...
Joseph: Saints desperately need a PROVEN striker. Fed up with the board selling big and buying cheap with a hope we will do 'ok' again.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to Sky Sports: "[To go third] is a big motivation. The most important thing is to try to play well and try to win and we will see. We are ready to compete. We know this is a very difficult place but we come from Southampton after a very good performance and now we want a repeat."

So far so good in 2017 for Abdoulaye Doucoure. It's the Watford man's birthday today and he makes his first Premier League start.
The 24-year-old is the 10th player in Premier League history to do this in the competition. Arsenal's Lucas Perez also made his first PL start on his birthday earlier this season.

Sana Hashimi: Manchester City need Joe Hart back. If they are going to have a shaky defense, they need a great keeper.
Jon Hind: Everton need a playmaker, keeper and striker. And rid of Gibson, Kone and Niasse.
Andy White: Middlesbrough need a proven goalscorer in the Premier League. There is one just up the road at Sunderland who would be perfect.
That wouldn't go down well with your neighbours Andy!
