    Newcastle United 2-0 Birmingham City

Two goals for Newcastle and Dwight Gayle. It could easily have been a few more but Birmingham still in it, just.

Rafael Benitez's men are heading back to the top of the Championship if they hold on for victory.

  2. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:49 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2016

    Reading 0-0 Sheffield Wednesday

Half-time at the Madejski Stadium. Average is probably the best assessment of it.

A goal in the battle of first against third in League Two, and Plymouth are going to leapfrog leaders Doncaster as it stands.

Graham Carey has put the hosts ahead, bending a shot into the back of the net from outside the box.

Bottom side Newport are also 1-0 up against Morecambe - Tom Owen-Evans' strike would be enough to lift them out of the relegation zone if all the results were to stay this way at the end of 90 minutes.

  4. Fulham come from behindpublished at 15:47 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2016

    Championship latest

Wolves' home woes are continuing - two quickfire goals from Floyd Ayite and Tom Cairney have put Fulham 3-1 up at Molineux. It could be five home defeats in a row for the Championship strugglers.

Barnsley are coasting at Oakwell with Conor Hourihane putting them 2-0 ahead against Norwich.

Aron Gunnarsson has given Cardiff the lead at Ipswich after a howler from goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski.

It's still goalless at Villa Park and Reading, but goals everywhere else as we approach half-time.

  5. Postpublished at 15:46 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2016

    Newcastle United 2-0 Birmingham City

Closing stages of the first half at St James Park and Dwight Gayle almost bags a hat-trick before the break.

Just strays offside as the ball comes through to him. Birmingham holding on and hoping the whistle is blown as soon as possible.

  6. Postpublished at 15:45 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2016

    Huddersfield 1-1 Bristol City

On the flip side, been a very entertaining first half so far between Huddersfield and Bristol City....

  7. Postpublished at 15:41 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2016

    Reading 0-0 Sheffield Wednesday

Apologies Reading and Wednesday fans for the lack of news from the Madejski Stadium, but there's been very little of note to mention.

"Not a classic so far," says BBC Radio Berkshire's Tim Dellor as we approach half-time.

  8. A win at last for Bury?published at 15:37 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2016

    League One latest

    Ched EvansImage source, Rex Features

We mentioned earlier that Bury have lost their past 10 league games - could today be the day they end that run?

Scott Burgess has fired in from the edge of the box to give the Shakers the lead at Bristol Rovers, who were stunned by National League club Barrow in the second round the FA Cup last time out.

Elsewhere, Chesterfield have fought back in style after falling behind to Peterborough early on, with goals from Ched Evans and Liam O'Neil putting the Spireites 2-1 up at London Road.

  9. A minute's applause at Bramall Lanepublished at 15:35 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2016

There was a touching moment earlier at Bramall Lane, as Sheffield United's fans held a minute's applause in memory of eight-year-old Blades fan Kasabian Newton-Smith, who passed away earlier this week after battling a brain tumour.

United are still tied 0-0 with Swindon, as they look to climb into the League One automatic promotion places.

  10. goal

    Huddersfield 1-1 Bristol City

    Tammy AbrahamImage source, Empics

Bristol City get themselves level on 33 minutes and it's their most potent player Tammy Abraham with the goal.

Cleverly worked free-kick from the visitors as Aaron Wilbraham squares a ball across the face of goal for Abraham to finish it off from close range.

  11. Rotherham ahead!published at 15:34 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2016

    Championship round-up

Don't get too excited yet Millers fans, but Izzy Brown has given the Championship's bottom side the lead against QPR.

Wolves were in front against Fulham through Kortney Hause's header, but Stefan Johansen has just levelled for the visitors at Molineux.

It's also 1-1 at Griffin Park - Jamie Ward with the equaliser for Burton cancelling out Scott Hogan's opener for Brentford.

  12. Postpublished at 15:30 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2016

    Newcastle United 2-0 Birmingham City

Already sounding like damage limitation for Birmingham in the face of Newcastle's dominance.

Yoan Gouffran drills an effort from distance which creeps just wide of the post.

Still just under 30 minutes played.

  13. Postpublished at 15:29 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2016

Big opportunity for a Bristol City equaliser at Huddersfield....

    Newcastle United 2-0 Birmingham City

Dwight Gayle scores for NewcastleImage source, Rex Features

Get one, get two for Dwight Gayle and Newcastle United.

The hosts double their lead as a deflected cross from Isaac Hayden finds itself to Gayle in space inside the Birmingham area and he can do no wrong.

  15. Postpublished at 15:24 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2016

    Reading 0-0 Sheffield Wednesday

So the only one of our three feature games without a goal is at the Madejski Stadium.

No real clear-cut chances so far for either side. Liam Moore headed a Reading corner over the bar early on while Ross Wallace had a go from distance for Wednesday, which did force Ali Al Habsi to get down low behind his shot.

  16. Early goals at Lutonpublished at 15:22 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2016

    Danny HyltonImage source, Rex Features

The best of the action outside the Championship can be found at Luton, where Danny Hylton has put the hosts back on level terms after Jason Kennedy's early opener for Carlisle.

Unfortunately, they're the only goals from League Two so far, though there's still a long time to go.

In League One, Oldham, looking to put their FA Cup defeat by non-league Lincoln behind them, have gone 1-0 up at Oxford through Cameron Burgess' 10th-minute finish.

  17. goal

GOAL (Gayle)published at 15:20 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2016

    Newcastle 1-0 Birmingham

I told you they were looking dangerous and Newcastle have made their early pressure tell with a goal.

Dwight Gayle is on hand to net his 14th of the season already. Mo Diame picked him out with a pinpoint ball into the area and Gayle nodded in ahead of Tomasz Kuszczak from five yards out.

  18. Elsewhere in the Championshippublished at 15:17 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2016

Prolific striker Scott Hogan has put Brentford ahead against Burton with his 12th league goal of the season.

Barnsley, without a victory at Oakwell since 27 August, are 1-0 up against Norwich - Wales forward Tom Bradshaw with the goal.

Still goalless in six of our Championship games.

    Newcastle United 0-0 Birmingham City

Three superb saves in two minutes from Birmingham keeper Tomasz Kuszczak deny Dwight Gayle, Matt Ritchie and then Ciaran Clark's header.

Home crowd getting well and truly behind Rafael Benitez's men in the early stages.
