Manchester United defender Chris Smalling: "We all knew at half-time that the first-half performance wasn't good enough so it was good to get the two goals in the second half.

"It was a frustrating night, we knew how they would set up and play but in the second half we played with more tempo and it worked for us."

  6. A transfer round-uppublished at 22:09 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2017

If you missed tonight's transfer news - Manchester United have agreed to sell midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin to Everton for £22m.

France international Schneiderlin, 27, was signed for United by Louis van Gaal for £25m from Southampton in July 2015.

He has played 47 times for the club but has only featured eight times under Jose Mourinho this season, including three Premier League appearances.

Everton, meanwhile, have agreed to loan striker Oumar Niasse, 26, to Hull, with personal terms still to be agreed.

Morgan Schneiderlin has struggled to adapt and stamp his personality on anything at Old Trafford. But consider that he is a big guy, he gets across the ground well, he can tackle and he gets up and down.

At his best he's a typical Premier League central midfield player. Everton are buying someone who you know has been able to produce the goods in the Premier League.

So Manchester United face Liverpool at the weekend but what for Hull?

They have Bournemouth and a win could take the Tigers out of the bottom three.

You can't say that United didn't deserve it and they have a healthy cushion. Hull City gave everything, they were depleted and down almost before they got off the bus to be honest but there is still a glimmer of a chance.

They need to have 'one of those nights' to win the second leg. They need someone to put the ball in the net and I don't see it - unless they do something in the window before then.

A month ago, Marouane Fellaini was booed by some Manchester United supporters as he warmed up prior to a home game against Tottenham.

Now Fellaini's name is reverberating around Old Trafford after his header gave United a lead that should be enough to book a place at Wembley next month.

No doubt who Fellaini has to thank for turning his season around.

Jose Mourinho has stuck by the Belgian when many expected he would be jettisoned.

Fellaini acknowledged it by racing to Mourinho to celebrate.

Anthony Martial then has a chance for three but sidefoots a volley straight at Eldin Jakupovic.

    Marouane Fellaini

There is a late shock on the cards - a Marouane Fellaini goal! Matteo Darmian sends over a deep cross, there's no pace on the ball and Fellaini is able to lob the keeper with a header which just about creeps in.

Not the most attractive goal but not many players would be able to score that you know.
