    Manchester United 1-0 Hull City

Hull may not have got anywhere near selling their full allocation of tickets at Old Trafford tonight but the supporters who have come across the M62 are making plenty of noise.

Given their injury problems, I reckon most would be pretty pleased with a 1-0 scoreline.

Providing the hosts don't get another, Hull will at least feel they have a chance of getting to the final when they host the second leg on 26 January.

Steve Bruce has just left to beat the traffic so I doubt Juan Mata will be on his way to Villa Park any time soon.

Hull still having plenty of it in midfield. Are we on for any more goals?

Hoping that whilst Steve Bruce is at Old Trafford he can negotiate a player swap, i'd love to hear 'Bacuna to Mata' in commentaries!

A strange atmosphere inside Old Trafford now. Hull having plenty of the ball as the hosts seem stuck between whether to go for more or settle for a 1-0.

It's another change for Hull as Shaun Maloney comes on for Adama Diomande. Maloney once scored a big goal for Wigan against Manchester United, if memory serves.

And he shoots instantly, driving wide from 25 yards. Sliced right across the ball.

Lovely effort! Paul Pogba curls the free-kick over the wall, flat trajectory and it slaps against the post! Eldin Jakupovic did not move.

Somebody almost got Alan Green talking about his thoughts on a 48-team World Cup then, we would have had to take the radio off the air...

United have a free-kick just left of centre.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 70 mins

    Manchester United 1-0 Hull City

Antonio Valencia wins a highly dubious free-kick on the right but it's wasted and easily cleared by Hull. Here comes Jesse Lingard, who replaces flying machine Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

A slight breather with Liverpool in mind?

Just over 20 minutes to go and Hull are still in this, with a second leg to come in Hull two weeks on Thursday.

Hull have a passage of play and David Meyler is able to stand up a decent cross to beyond the far post, Adama Diomande sizes it up and launches into an overhead kick which flies well over the top. Half a chance.

    Manchester United 1-0 Hull City

Wayne Rooney had one decent chance to claim Manchester United's goalscoring record for himself but has now been replaced by Anthony Martial.

It means the camera that has been trained on Sir Bobby Charlton in the directors' box throughout the game can now find something else to focus on.

Ryan Mason, Hull's record signing, has played two dreadful passes to lose the ball in quick succession. And now Sam Clucas plays it straight to Marcus Rashford. Hull have done so well for large periods of this game, don't implode now.

The crowd sensed something was happening just prior to that move. Now Manchester United have found the breakthrough they can relax and play with a bit more freedom and perhaps play a little better.

Don't forget this is a two-legged semi-final so Hull need to sit tight and not panic. And panic they do as Ryan Mason coughs up possession and United almost burst through.

The best player on the night opens the scoring, and it's a smart goal too. Paul Pogba and Wayne Rooney are involved as the play develops, and when Antonio Valencia's deep cross is nodded across goal by Henrikh Mkhitaryan Juan Mata is there to prod in from three yards.

That Wayne Rooney chance has got the home fans singing again. United are seeing lots and lots of the ball but Hull still look more than a sum of their parts. Forcing United wide, and Paul Pogba scuffs a shot.
