Summary

  • Defender Alonso smashes home in each half

  • Pedro heads in a third from Willian cross

  • Chelsea without Costa - Hazard up front

It looks like Marc Albrighton - right wing-back for Leicester - will be busy defensively. Marcos Alonso and Eden Hazard are all over him down the left.

It's Albrighton who tries to change the narrative with a cross from as far back as halfway. That bends around the defence beautifully but Jamie Vardy cannot quite latch onto it. A great ball.

Ranieri may have seen something in playing Musa and Vardy to expose Luiz with pace.

But they could be targeting Cahill too - we saw his deficiencies in the air against Tottenham.

And Luiz has done a lot better than people expected, myself included. He's a hell of a player and he's getting good protection in this Chelsea team.

Again Marcos Alonso is forward down the Chelsea left, he wins a corner which is headed clear.

The game has a pattern. Chelsea keep the ball, Leicester's wing-backs drop to make it a back five, thus allowing Chelsea's wing-backs to push right on. One-way traffic.

Dan Bell: Leicester's defence this season is dreadful. Did they really win the league last season?!

Chelsea with around 68% of the ball as we clock up 10 minutes. Pedro seeing plenty of ball, as is Eden Hazard. Save for that early Ahmed Musa strike, Leicester have been chasing shadows.

Now then Leicester, what do you do?

When they lose the ball the home side's two wing-backs drop into a back five. That's all well and good but not so great when you're going to have to chase the game.

A free-kick conceded deep in their own half, Willian will swing it in... hacked clear by Danny Drinkwater.

It was good awareness from Hazard to find Alonso, who was teed up nicely.

The Leicester fans are stunned into silence. A big blow.

    Marcos Alonso

Not many of you had Marcos Alonso down as first goalscorer, eh? He finishes like a pro though, right footed, low and into the corner from 12 yards.

It's sloppy from Leicester. They look well set with a back five as a cross comes in from the right. But a ricochet has them in all sorts of trouble and Eden Hazard has the presence of mind to tee up Alonso... whack... jackpot.

    Where's Diego lads? Missing him?

Robert Huth and some hurly burly. Now that's never happened before.

He tussles with Willian and wraps a hand around the Brazilian's face as they contest a ball. Willian goes down and that's a free-kick.

A high ball over the top gets Pedro interested but he's not tall enough to make anything of it. That'll be a goal kick and after stamping the mud off his studs, Kasper Schmeichel boots the ball up field.

  12. KICK-OFFpublished at 1 min

    Leicester 0-0 Chelsea

We are out of the blocks fast ladies and gents - I have promised you at least four goals remember.

Ahmed Musa almost gets us rolling, cutting inside, riding a challenge and driving from an angle to force a solid save.

All that came about when Marc Albrighton pounced on a loose Chelsea pass in midfield.

A minute of applause for the late Graham Taylor ahead of kick-off.

Many of us in this office had interactions with the former England manager and he really was a gent. He'd have wanted this to be played full throttle, with the masses on the edge of their seats...

    Here we go.

    Ex-Chelsea striker on Final Score

It's hard to make head or tail of this Costa story. It seems to be a fitness issue though.

Antonio Conte has to take Diego Costa's word if he says he is not fit - he can trust his medial staff but also has to trust his player.

This way, Conte has questioned Costa's integrity.

It would be ridiculous to go to China for the money though - how much do they want to earn? It's utterly ridiculous to go mid-season. But we won't know the secondary stuff until we get to the bottom of this injury issue.

If, and it is a big 'if' of course, Diego Costa moves to China and earns £30m a year, he will pick up £600,000 a week give or take.

That weekly salary is four times more than the £149,440 Prime Minister Theresa May earns in an entire year.

As N'Golo Kante's name is read aloud by the matchday announcer, we get some boos and applause. That's football folks.

Kante exchanges high-fives with Chelsea, who will be wearing their black strip tonight.

    Leicester v Chelsea (17:30 GMT)

In the tunnel there's barely a word exchanged between the captains. Gary Cahill looks focused, Wes Morgan is shouting "N'Golo... N'Golo" and looking down the line at his former team-mate Kante.

Morgan doesn't really have a request for the Chelsea man. It's like he's trying to get his mate in trouble in assembly.

This game ushers in Leicester's tricky spell without Riyad Mahrez, Islam Slimani and Daniel Amartey as they head to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Mahrez is undoubtedly the big name they'll miss but a look at the stats shows Slimani chips in for the Foxes. He has created three goals this season - a team high.

Both he and Mahrez have had the most shots for Claudio Ranieri's side too - with 66 between them.
