It's been a fascinating second half. On the balance of play I think United deserved an equaliser.

United had the most chances, Liverpool had the more controlled play, so a draw is a fair result.

I think the gap now is too much for Man United or Man City to catch Chelsea.

But you have to give Jose Morinho credit because he brought on Marouane Fellaini and he had an impact.

    What an absolute thriller.

It was all Manchester United in the second half, as they score a late goal to claim a point against rivals Liverpool.

"Calm, calm," Jose Mourinho urges his players to do.

    Man Utd 1-1 Liverpool

This is the chance for Liverpool to win the game.

It is Georginio Wijnaldum who the ball breaks to into the box, but the Dutchman's shot is oh, so poor and David de Gea can gather without any problems.

That was it, but Wijnaldum fails to convert his chance.

It's a foul I would have committed if I were Ander Herrera. It's cynical no doubt about it. I think a yellow card for both players is right.

    FOUR MINUTES ADDED TIME.

  8. YELLOW CARDSpublished at 90 mins

    Man Utd 1-1 Liverpool

A chance for Liverpool to break, but Ander Herrera tries to pull Roberto Firmino's shorts off him.

Firmino pushes Herrera in the chest and then in the face.

Both men are booked, but is Firmino lucky to stay on?

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has scored 14 goals in his first 20 PL games - the same total as Alan Shearer and Sergio Aguero.

    What an impact.

Here we go. Is this the winner?

Zlatan Ibrahimovic through on goal from Paul Pogba's clearance...

...but the Swede is flagged offside.

Into the last minute we go.

  11. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 88 mins

    Man Utd 1-1 Liverpool

The Stretford End appeal for a penalty as Wayne Rooney's pass comes off Trent Alexander-Arnold in the area.

It was chest, not hand. Sit down.

But wait. It is Liverpool who have broken to the other end.

Georginio Wijnaldum controls the ball in the area and shoots, but it is straight at Phil Jones.

Jose Mourinho barking out orders to his side. He wants them to push and go for the winner.

United pushing for the winner now. They left it late against Middlesbrough last month. Can they do the same again today?

Oh! They've kept going United. They kept the ball alive.

Look at Zlatan Ibrahimovic, he's getting the crowd going!

We thought Marcus Rashford might come on but it's Marouane Fellaini who has played a huge part in the goal.

    It's Zlat man again.

    Manchester United get the breakthrough...finally.

Wayne Rooney clips a ball into Marouane Fellaini six yards out, whose header comes back off the post.

The recycle it towards Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the big Swede arches his neck round to pop the ball into the net off the crossbar.

Old Trafford erupts and United have deserved this.

    Wayne Rooney for the record...

...NO. His volley from Juan Mata's knockdown is brilliantly saved by Simon Mignolet.

The flag was up anyway, even though the England skipper was onside.

    Man Utd 0-1 Liverpool

Every time Paul Pogba gets the ball, two Liverpool men hound in and the Frenchman has to surrender possession.

You have to say, Jurgen Klopp's men have done a number on the world's most expensive player today.

10 minutes remaining for the home side to rescue the game and possibly their top-four hopes.

David Ljunggren: Pogba must have a clause in his contract that doesn't allow him to be substituted. There's no other reason he's still playing

Zain: Mourinho brings in Fellaini when Rashford is available. Sums it up really.

Dave W: The question should not be about Fellaini, but why is slow Rooney on ahead of superquick Rashford?

  19. Fellaini's briefpublished at 17:36 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2017

    Man Utd 0-1 Liverpool

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Before introducing Marouane Fellaini for Matteo Darmain, Jose Mourinho went through some fairly specific instructions with the Belgian.

As Fellaini ran straight up alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic in attack, the instructions look likely to have been 'get your head on it'.

If this stays as it is you could almost say the title challenge from the Manchester clubs is over.

Neither can win it. If United lose this they're out of it.
