    Man Utd 0-0 Liverpool

Michael Carrick has given the ball away, something you don't see very often.

It puts the home side on the back foot as Matteo Darmian then brings down Divock Origi on the right and Liverpool have a free-kick in a dangerous position...

Paul Pogba has made a great third-man run, through the heart of the defence. All he has to do is hit the target, but puts it wide of the post. It should have been 1-0 United.

It's all come from Dejan Lovren's underhit backpass - it's given United and the fans a lift.

    Sliced open.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan plays a beautiful through ball into the path of Paul Pogba, through on goal

It is on the Frenchman's left on the edge of the area, but Pogba's finish is poor as he scuffs it wide of goal.

All the money in the world cannot buy you a decent left peg, it seems.

  5. CLOSE!published at 19 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Liverpool

Liverpool almost gift Manchester United a goal!

A long punt upfield for Dejan Lovren to deal with and the defender sells Simon Mignolet short with a backpass.

The Belgian has to get to it first and kicks the ball onto Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was closing in, but the ball comes off his shin and spins high and onto the roof of the net. For a second or so everybody was wondering just where it would finish.

    A let off.

Man United haven't been able to get Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the game yet. They haven't got in support of him.

Paul Pogba has not had an influence and Michael Carrick has not been able to pass forward. Anthony Martial is the outlet.

Not seen much of Paul Pogba so far, apart from his #Pogba hashtag on the advertising boards.

The Manchester United man is pressured on the ball in the middle of the park by Emre Can and Liverpool break, but the attack peters out after a poor cross.

Liverpool's start was confident but we have begun to see some moments of threat from Manchester United from Anthony Martial and Zlatan Ibrahimovic - it's been as tight as you would expect to now.

We are 15 minutes in and neither goalkeeper has been tested yet.

Is this match going the way of Anfield one? A forgettable Premier League encounter. Sorry I mentioned it.

Plenty of familiar faces at Old Trafford today, none more so than David Beckham, who is on a rare visit.

In 1996, he got the only goal in this fixture.

Anthony Martial has started the game very well. He's direct and runs into the box up against Lovren - it's a good tackle. Martial goes down but it's a good decision not to give a penalty.

And once again Martial is a threat - Ibrahimovic pulls off the back post and he's in acres of space. If the ball is better he's got a free hit on target.

    Man Utd 0-0 Liverpool

Anthony Martial, who scored on his United debut against Liverpool, is starting to grow into this game.

The Frenchman chips a ball towards the back post for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but the big Swede cannot control the ball as it goes out for a goal kick.

A half chance if he had brought that down.

    Man Utd 0-0 Liverpool

Nothing to feed off for United front man Zlatan Ibrahimovic just yet...

...but Anthony Martial shows dancing feet and goes down in the box under the challenge of Dejan Lovren, but referee Michael Oliver is unmoved.

Would have been very harsh to give that one.

Playing Divock Orgi over on the left side could be dangerous for Liverpool. He has to work so hard and on this occasion Antonio Valencia has got in a cross.

    Oops.

Dejan Lovren attempts a cross-field ball across his own backline, but succeeds in knocking the ball out of play.

Lovren is lucky, as United cannot make anything of it.

United get forward for the first time and it is a nice, confidence-boosting touch for Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold as the 18-year-old heads away Antonio Valencia's cross to the back post.

First corner of the game to Liverpool after some haphazard Antonio Valencia defending as he is caught in possession by Divock Origi.

Phil Jones heads the first corner away for another one...

...while the next is collected on the stretch by David de Gea, relieving the pressure on the United backline.
