  1. 'Poor decision from referee'published at 15:45 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Man Utd 0-0 Middlesbrough

    Trevor Sinclair
Ex-Man City & West Ham winger on Final Score

Brilliant improvisation, Ibrahimovic gets his foot there first, four or five foot in the air and he gets it down before Mannone is near him.

I know he's a black belt at martial arts and that must have been one of his moves.

That's a poor decision from the referee.

  2. goal

GOAL - Southampton 1-1 West Brompublished at 15:43 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Matt Phillips (43 mins)

Boing-boing. The Baggies bounce straight back from conceding the opener.

It is an icy cool finish from Matt Phillips as well as he controls the ball on the edge of the box from Hal Robson-Kanu's flick-on, twists inside Maya Yoshida and carefully curls a low shot out of Fraser Forster's wingspan and inside the far post.

  3. goal

GOAL - Southampton 1-0 West Brompublished at 15:41 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Shane Long (41 mins)

    Good header.

Shane Long gets in front of his man at the near post and uses the pace on Dusan Tadic's corner to send a glancing header flashing past Ben Foster for the opener.

Southampton just about deserve the half-time lead.

That's Long's first Saints goal since May. Drought ended.

  4. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 15:40 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Manchester United 0-0 Middlesbrough

It's not the last we've heard of this. Manchester United have had one chalked off and Zlatan Ibrahimovic is denied his 51st of 2016. After Anthony Martial hit the post with a thunderbolt, Ibrahimovic gets on the end of a cross and pokes it past Victor Valdes. Only on the replay does the height of Zlatan's foot become apparent. On the letter of the law, it's probably the correct decision.

  5. Postpublished at 15:40 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Swansea 0-1 Bournemouth

Not much change at the Liberty, where Bournemouth have a grip on the game and look the better side.

Jack Wilshere looks in seasoned string-pulling mood in the middle of the park.

    Leicester City 1-0 West Ham

Dimitri Payet in actionImage source, Getty Images

Yes! An old school goal-mouth scramble.

Leicester defenders are flailing legs at the ball like Michael Flatley as first of all Dimitri Payet has an effort blocked and then Andre Ayew.

  7. YELLOW CARDpublished at 15:37 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Southampton 0-0 West Brom

Virgil van Dijk has picked up a yellow card for a tangle of legs with Hal Robson-Kanu, but it is pretty quiet on the south coast.

Sofiane Boufal has been the brightest spot in a pretty dull game.

We are still awaiting our first shot on target.

  8. Postpublished at 15:36 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Leicester City 1-0 West Ham

Leicester are prodding and probing and producing some intricate stuff.

Two tidy moves from the Foxes are brought to a halt by the offside flag.

Meanwhile, Winston Reid takes out the legs of Riyad Mahrez - no free-kick.

But Daniel Amartey body checks Dimitri Payet - free-kick given

  9. Cahill shows the hungerpublished at 15:35 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Chelsea 1-0 Stoke

    Trevor Sinclair
Ex-Man City & West Ham winger on Final Score

I'm looking at Shawcross and thinking 'do you fancy that or not?'

Gary Cahill shows more hunger to win the ball and he gets his reward.

  10. goal

GOAL - Chelsea 1-0 Stokepublished at 15:33 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Gary Cahill (34 mins)

If you win a header ahead of Bruno Martins Indi and Ryan Shawcross, you deserve everything you get.

Gary Cahill comes steaming into the box to meet a Cesc Fabregas corner with an old-school bullet header.

Lee Grant had no chance. Chelsea are nine points clear as it stands.

  11. EFL updatepublished at 15:33 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

We finally have a goal in the Championship, and it's not good news for new Birmingham boss Gianfranco Zola. His side has just fallen behind at Barnsley with Tom Bradshaw bagging.

In League One, Bolton lead 1-0 at Scunthorpe. That means Scunthorpe, who started the day top of the table, drop to third, with Bolton up to second and Sheffield United the current leaders. Long way to go yet.

  12. 'Schoolboy error from Sunderland'published at 15:32 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Burnley 1-0 Sunderland

    Trevor Sinclair
Ex-Man City & West Ham winger on Final Score

He's onside because I don't think the attacking player touches the ball.

It's a fantastic finish, but I do think the goalkeeper goes down a little early.

It's a schoolboy error from the defenders, there's no communication. And Vito Mannone tries to guess in goal, and he gets it wrong.

  13. goal

GOAL - Burnley 1-0 Sunderlandpublished at 15:31 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Andre Gray (31 mins)

How big is this goal in the context of the relegation fight? At first glance, Andre Gray looks a mile offside when a long ball is nodded on. On closer inspection, though, it's come off the head of Sunderland's John O'Shea, with Gray running clear to blast past Vito Mannone. Burnley could be going into the top half.

  14. Postpublished at 15:30 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Manchester United 0-0 Middlesbrough

Anthony Martial has been bright down the United left and another sparky run sees the ball fall to Henrik Mkhitaryan. A snap shot on the half-turn is smartly saved by Victor Valdes, who had to get down low to his left.

  15. Postpublished at 15:30 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Leicester City 1-0 West Ham

Dimitri Payet in actionImage source, Getty Images

West Ham carve out a really good chance here, but Dimitri Payet fluffs his lines.

Andy Carroll gets it going in the right direction with a flick-on header that Michail Antonio chases down.

He lays it off to Payet but the Frenchman decides he'd like the whole of 2017 to get his shot away and is closed own.

Aside from that, it must be said that Leicester are looking very good.

  16. Postpublished at 15:29 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke

Stoke are starting to ask questions of the Chelsea defence.

A neat free-kick routine - Charlie Adam cutting the ball back to Xherdan Shaqiri as everyone else rushes towards goal - ends in disappointment as the Swiss balloons his shot high into the stand.

Adam fails to crane his neck around a header shortly after.

    Better from the visitors.

  17. Postpublished at 15:29 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Burnley 0-0 Sunderland

Lamine Kone receives medical attentionImage source, Reuters

After a reasonably bright start, it's gone pretty quiet at Turf Moor. Sunderland defender Lamine Kone, who is due to go to the Africa Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast, has had to go off after crashing in to an advertising board, but that's about it.

  18. Postpublished at 15:27 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Southampton 0-0 West Brom

More pressure from Southampton as youngster Sam McQueen gives it the laces from 20 yards.

His shot beats Ben Foster, but drifts a yard or two wide of the far post.

  19. 'Poor defending from Swansea'published at 15:27 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Swansea 0-1 Bournemouth

    Trevor Sinclair
Ex-Man City & West Ham winger on Final Score

    It's poor, poor defending.

Initailly it was good play from Bournemouth but it is poor defending from Swansea, there's just so much room.

Jack Wilshere has been playing well and it's no surprise to me that he's having an influence on the game again.

  20. Postpublished at 15:25 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Chelsea 0-0 Stoke

Lee Grant is called into action again in the Stoke goal, pushing aside a Gary Cahill header.

He is going to earn his money this afternoon.
