    France 2-1 England

    Chris Waddle

England are too one-paced. Sterling is the only one who has a change of pace but France are so confident to take people on.

I have barely seen England's midfield. Dier does an alright job but Oxlade-Chamberlain looks lost.

For 15 mins England were in control but they can't live with France's pace.

A good game. As international friendlies go, I'd go as far as to say very good.

England led but now trail, and Tom Heaton can perhaps share a chat with Joe Hart about the realities of keeping goal for England. Every goal you concede will be scrutinised.

James Foster: I feel so bad for Heaton. He's playing his best and his defenders are giving him no help whatsoever.

Andy Rudd: 5 defenders and twice the French have been first to a loose ball, questions have to be asked.

England need to bring on some actual midfielders and take control of the game in the heart of it.

Trevor Priestman: Southgate has a vision and is developing this squad. They look more assured and still have another year to develop for Russia.

    ... on the other hand...

Gary Cook: England = over rated over paid spoilt brats that are just not good enough

  7. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 44 mins

    France 2-1 England

End to end stuff. Now Raheem Sterling tries to chop inside his man like Ousmane Dembele but he ends up on the turf, looking longingly at the referee. No decision!

There was contact from Samuel Umtiti.

Three, THREE, unmarked French players in the box for the 2nd goal. Awful defending.

France have been so patient and they have unbelievable pace. They get a bit of good fortune but it's a great build-up and great finish.

GOAL - France 2-1 Englandpublished at 43 mins

    Djibril Sidibe

What a turn! Ousmane Dembele makes a mug out of John Stones, dancing inside him with a beautiful dummy and getting a shot away. Again, it's a good save from Tom Heaton but again he can only push it out and right-back Djibril Sidibe is first to the loose change to slam in his first goal for France.

    France 1-1 England

Good break from England, Raheem Sterling running at France and playing it to Dele Alli - it's just not a good enough pass. It needed to be perfect for Alli to have a chance, and it was a touch behind the Spurs man.

The run from Sterling was superb. The pass not so much.

  12. An exciting squadpublished at 20:46 British Summer Time 13 June 2017

    France 1-1 England

    Chris Waddle

I like Thomas Lemar - I think he is a very talented player.

France really do have an exciting squad. They have five players in every position I think.

They have to expect to go to Russia and lift the trophy. It wouldn't be good enough to go and say, "we can make the quarter finals" - they have to go to win it.

    Not a fan Rob?

We're going over old ground here but those two central midfield roles are definitely where England are lacking. Paul Pogba shoots from 30+ yards but it's well over the top.

Giroud so underrated. Only Kane had a better goal-per-minute ratio last year in premiership. Arsenal won't attract better.

    Ben, Cornwall

Dier can't run, can't tackle, can't dribble, can't pass, can't head, can't read the game. Otherwise he's average.

Phil Jones does well again to defend well at the far post after Ousmane Dembele flips in an early cross, N'Golo Kante then lashes over from the edge of the area.

Oasis pre-game, a genuinely decent 35 minutes or so of football - can we have every friendly here?

  16. Postpublished at 37 mins

    France 1-1 England

Hit it! Ah what a ball from Kieran Trippier, side-footed volley into the run of Raheem Sterling, tearing into the area. He's got a tight angle but he should just smash it across goal. Instead he tries to find Harry Kane and it's cut out.

  17. CLOSE!published at 34 mins

    France 1-1 England

That is so close! Ryan Bertrand's corner is deep and good, Gary Cahill gets up well to knock it down and Eric Dier is bang in front, on his left foot, he swings and puts it a yard wide.

    Very, very close indeed.

  18. 'France are controlling the pace'published at 20:38 British Summer Time 13 June 2017

    France 1-1 England

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Spurs and England winger for 5 live Sport

France are really on top at the moment.

Southgate has come out into the technical area and is trying to get his players to push higher up the field.

France are controlling the pace and the ball at this point of the match.

  19. CLOSE!published at 32 mins

    France 1-1 England

Good effort from Ryan Bertrand, cutting across the ball from 20-odd yards and Hugo Lloris has to get down and make the save. Think that was heading just wide.

It's a decent game. Bertrand will now take the corner.

    Confused thinking?

I'm not sure I know what England are trying to do. They were playing it out from the back, Spurs-style, and now they seem to be lumping up field and losing it in midfield. They need to get the ball on the floor and trust players like Alli, Kane & Sterling.
