Rumours doing the rounds that Dimitar Berbatov is in the UK and about to sign for an unnamed club.

Berbatov, a free agent after leaving Olympiakos at the end of last season, has made no secret of his desire to play again despite celebrating his 36th birthday yesterday.

He spoke to one Premier League club to my knowledge a few weeks ago without agreeing a deal.

Is another about to take the plunge?

  6. Not even Neymar...published at 17:54 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Hull City

It's been tricky for Hull. But how can Hull City avoid relegation? Surely signing Brazilian superstar Neymar would help?!

Well according to the Sports Analytics Machine built by Professor Ian McHale, external, if Hull City were to pull off the most incredible deadline day transfer in history, they would get an extra six points by the end of the season. That would put them on 31 points - even Neymar might not be able to save them from the drop!

  7. Deadline day very difficult - Phelanpublished at 17:52 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Hull City

    Mike Phelan

Former Hull City manager Mike Phelan says completing deals on deadline day is "very difficult" for clubs.

"It is difficult because very rarely will you get players in first teams unless you pay big money," he said.

"Clubs don’t want to sell because they are fighting relegation or are looking to be successful.

"It is also difficult because you are hunting for players who are out of favour.

"When you try to do deals on that side, fitness comes into it. You have to think how long will take them to get fit because you have only got a small period of time until the end of the season."

Phelan was speaking on the BBC Sport Facebook page. You can watch it again here, external.

Blackburn, Bolton and Bury all ticked off, he's squeezed in Birmingham as a bonus as well.

  9. The Euro Zonepublished at 17:47 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Andy Brassell
    European Football Expert

Even if Paris St-Germain have completed their business, there's plenty of busy elsewhere in France - nowhere more so than at Lille. After new owner Gerard Lopez had his finances approved by the league's board, they've signed four players already today, including highly rated Ajax winger Anwar El Ghazi for 8m euros (£6.85m), and word has it they're not finished yet.

One man who won't be going to Ligue 1 is Anthony Mounier. In perhaps the weirdest tale of the window, the winger signed a loan deal with Saint Etienne, but their fans protested due to his past ties with Lyon, the club's bitter rivals. The deal was cancelled after four days and parent club Bologna have loaned him to Atalanta instead.

The window has shut on a relatively quiet deadline day in Germany, with Leon Bailey's 12m euro (£10.2m) move to Leverkusen by far the standout, at least pending any late moves that are yet to be confirmed.

Bottom club Darmstadt's new coach Torsten Frings has had a busy first deadline day, though as you can see from the club's Twitter feed,, external the rookie boss needs to do some work on his Mauricio Pochettino arm-round-the-shoulder....

Meanwhile the 'Scottish Messi' Ryan Gauld - remember him? - was expected to be loaned by Sporting Clube de Portugal to fellow top-flight club Chaves after they cut short his temporary spell at Vitoria Setubal, to some consternation. Now Sporting have announced he'll be integrated into the first-team squad instead. Fingers crossed that this is the start of something for him.

Remember former Everton striker Lacina Traore? (You couldn't miss him - he was over 2m tall.)

Well, he has joined Spanish club Sporting Gijon on loan for the rest of the season from Monaco.

  12. Kara to Leicester?published at 17:45 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Leicester City

Anderlecht and Senegal defender Kara Mbodji has been linked with various Premier League clubs in the window including Leicester City and Crystal Palace. He's taken to twitter to deny pushing for a move and "clashing" with his club. He says he's received racist messages on deadline day from Anderlecht supporters. Uncalled for.

He says: "Be careful before judging me and insulting me. You don't have the information and contrary to what's been said I have not clashed. I am a pro and up to now I have always respected my contracts in every club I've been to.

"They're making me look like a bad person and some are using that to insult me or send racist messages. I give 300% to each match with "les mauves." I love the club and the fans. Don't believe everything you read in the press."

  16. The evening sessionpublished at 17:39 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Hello everyone!

What a letdown today has been. Not unexpected, but still.

You may have spent the morning smashing the F5 button on your keyboard at work desperately waiting for news on Marvin Emnes' whereabouts but now it's time to reload your phone every minute or so.

There are plenty of games to keep an eye on tonight plus such hot topics as:

    • Where is Ravel Morrison?
    • What's Steven Caulker up to?
    • Which ex-Everton players can David Moyes get on the phone tonight?
    • And does Hogan really know best?
  17. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 17:34 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

David Blackmore, Blowing Bubbles Monthly Magazine

It was disappointing to have heard Bilic say so early on today we wouldn't be looking to sign anyone else. But the admission that he'd personally called Demba Ba to come back to us came as a huge surprise.

I was also surprised that we haven't gone back in for Scott Hogan. But if Slav is happy, I'm happy.

We're mid-table, for now, and looking up rather than down so Bilic will feel he has got what he needs to take us forward. I really wanted us to sign another right back - the wait goes on until the summer!
