Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe, speaking Sky Sports: "I thought we gave our best. Manchester City were very good. We found it difficult to build momentum and pressure. We were hampered by our injuries in the first half. Losing both players was a real blow. We reorganised and had a go but ultimately they were too good. Simon felt his hamstring and Jack had a pain in his ankle. Hopefully nothing serious.

"The second goal was a killer from our perspective because it meant they could keep the ball relatively free from any pressure. We worked incredibly hard, the lads were disciplined in their defensive shape. I felt it was an even game.

"We have to be positive. We go into a break in the Premier League calendar and have to come back refreshed and ready to fight for our league survival."

What about Sergio Aguero's performance?

"He played good. He fought and scored a goal for his confidence," Pep Guardiola told Sky Sports, blissgully unaware the goal has gone down as an own goal.

"I’m so happy for him. He was important before the game and is still important."

Man City boss Pep Guardiola has spoken to Sky Sports about Gabriel Jesus' injury.

"Tomorrow morning we will know exactly. Hopefully – I will pray tonight – it will not be a big issue."

This is the gap Pep is talking about. Eight points, massive? It's a big gap but not big enough for Chelsea to feel comfortable just yet.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to BBC Sport: "We made a real performance. I am so pleased with how we did and especially the last 10-15 minutes, we did the right way to make the result with a thousand million passes. It is important to score goals, we are in deficit but it is OK."

On Gabriel Jesus' injury: "Hopefully it won't be for a long time, we will have to wait until tomorrow.

On the eight point gap to Chelsea: "The gap is still so massive. We just focus on the next game."

Bournemouth's Charlie Daniels, speaking to Sky Sports: "We felt if we could stay in the game as possible we would have a chance. I felt we did that but if we had a couple more chances we might have stuck one away.

"They had more possession in the first half so we knew we had to be on the front foot in the second half. I felt we did that and on another day we might have scored.

"Tonight is not going to define our season. We tried to win and did our best but we've got a big game coming up and that is what matters. We are a hardworking side and there is no reason we can't get some results soon."

I don't think City can catch Chelsea. It's too big a gap with Chelsea performing as they have done, but it was a comfortable performance from City - they are brilliant going forward.

I thought John Stones was outstanding and David Silva majestic. Since being thrashed by Everton they have responded superbly. Things are coming together for City at the right time.

Manchester City goalscorer Raheem Sterling, speaking to Sky Sports: "Before the game we knew it would be difficult. They play amazing football at times and you saw that today. Credit to them they pushed and pushed and luckily we got the two goals. I am always trying to get on the scoresheet, it doesn't always happen.

"We know Sergio's ability and it is great to have a player like that in the squad. He is world class.

Manchester City keeper Willy Caballero: "We fight together. We are really happy today. I have been waiting for this chance for a long time so I always try to do my best for the team.

"We have to win our games. After we see what happens with the rest of the teams but we can only do our job."

City weren't at their best, and had to withstand plenty of pressure in the third quarter of this game, but it will be a welcome three points for the fans to enjoy as they begin the long journey home - and run the gauntlet of the M6 roadworks,

Bournemouth's season was never going to rest on how they fare against the likes of Chelsea or Manchester City - but they can take heart from the way they played against City's galacticos if they can show a similar level of performance against the Premier League's lesser lights.

And there was a definite love-in between Pep Guardiola and Bournemouth's Harry Arter after the final whistle. A big hug for the Cherries midfielder from the Spaniard. Arter to the Etihad in the summer? Swap deal with Aguero? You read it here first.

It was comfortable in the end and City should have won by more. Bournemouth were dogged and determined and of course they missed Jack Wilshere going off injured. This game wasn't ever going to define Bournemouth's season, they have bigger games.

Pep Guardiola heads onto the pitch to give his goalkeeper Willy Caballero a big hug. That's six appearances for the shotstopper and six wins for Manchester City.

Pep's also clearly a big fan of Harry Arter's performance as he gives the Bournemouth man a hug before exchanging a few words with him.
