  15. Transfer window rules and regulations - a quick guidepublished at 14:32 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

On the stroke of midnight tonight the transfer window in Scotland will close...with a few exceptions.

After this time only players who are out of contract are eligible to sign for any club in Scotland.

No cross-border loans are allowed to any Scottish club after midnight.

Prior to midnight there are no restrictions as to the number of loan players a club can sign from outwith Scotland.

The maximum number of domestic loans by one club in a season is five. Of these only two can be over the age of 21 but they cannot be signed during the same period.

Any loans to a Premiership club must be completed by midnight.

Clubs in the Championship, League One and League Two are permitted to sign emergency loans (from within Scotland) after the window closes.

The emergency loan period must last for a minimum of 28 days and a maximum of 93.

  16. It's not all big-money dealspublished at 13:59 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

Clearly, not every footballer earns the colossal wages on offer at some of Europe's top clubs. The Scottish Professional Football League says it will be writing to all clubs regarding the payment of the national minimum wage to players. While the standard professional player contract already includes an obligation to pay it, the SPFL has confirmed that a number of allegations have been investigated including at Dundee, Stirling Albion and Queen's Park.

SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster said: "The SPFL has looked at the issue of national minimum wage very closely within the context of some of the challenges and factors that are unique to football.

"As a next step the SPFL will be examining its rules and the board will be bringing forward a number of recommendations to toughen the league's approach to ensure clubs pay their players at least at the national minimum wage.

"At the same time, the SPFL will be available to provide any required support to member clubs to help them fully understand this area of the law and to address any challenges. We will ensure any claims received from players in this territory are quickly dealt with and, if upheld, that payments due are enforced."

The Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes says as far as he’s concerned, Cardiff City’s bid for Jonny Hayes is “dead”. The Championship club have had three offers for Hayes turned down now as the Dons look to keep hold of the Irish international. McInnes says the most recent bid, thought to be about £600,000, was once again well below their valuation.

The manager does not expect to conclude any business today.
