Stevie May is unlikely to be leaving Preston North End on loan today. Aberdeen – among others - had been interested in the former St Johnstone striker who made his senior debut under Dons boss Derek McInnes in Perth.

May, who hasn’t played because of injury in more than a year, is in line to be in the Preston squad to face Cardiff City in the English Championship this evening.

Lonsana Doumbouya is expected to leave Inverness CT following the arrival of Billy Mckay.

The Guinea-born Frenchman was substituted in the first half against Patrick Thistle on Saturday and looks to be close to agreeing a move abroad on a free transfer.

  7. The state of play [in Scotland] on deadline daypublished at 12:43 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Liam McLeod
    BBC Sport Scotland

Looks like it could be the busiest January for transfers in a long time - and that’s just Hearts, who have come close to equalling their 2006 winter window record of 11.

Billy Mckay’s return to Caley Thistle is a massive boost for their battle against the drop. He scored 62 times for them in three and a half years before leaving for Wigan, though he failed to save Dundee United on loan last season.

Aberdeen fans are angered by Cardiff’s repetitive paltry bids for Jonny Hayes and as of lunchtime there has been no sign of a fourth offer for the Irish international and the Dons support will hope it stays that way.

In the Championship, if Hibernian manage to return Anthony Stokes to Easter Road for a third spell on loan from Blackburn, it could spell the end for United’s hopes of an automatic quick-fire return to the top flight.

  17. Sammon leaping to Kilmarnock?published at 11:48

    Richard Wilson
    BBC Scotland

Kilmarnock are working on potential moves for two players, including striker Conor Sammon from Hearts.

    • Kilmarnock have signed Scott Boyd on a permanent deal until the end of next season. The defender had been on loan at Rugby Park from Ross County.
    • Lee Clark is also exploring the possibility of a loan move for former Motherwell striker Lee Erwin. The Leeds United player is currently on loan at Oldham, where he has scored four goals this season.

Celtic striker Moussa Dembele spotted on a flight to London this morning, fuelling speculation about a move to Chelsea. The club say he's merely heading south for a scan on his knee.

  19. How many Celtic stars are Chelsea keen on?published at 10:17 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Chris McLaughlin
    BBC Sport Scotland

Chelsea are still interested in taking Celtic number one Craig Gordon to Stamford Bridge despite the Scottish champions knocking back two bids and telling the English Premier League leaders he's not for sale. My understanding is, as it stands, Celtic will hold onto him and offer him a new and improved deal.

Both clubs are staying very quiet about Moussa Dembele, though, in light of reports of a £34m bid. Celtic rate him very highly but the young French striker has been on Chelsea's radar before. Fellow London club West Ham also expressed interest in him recently.
