    Slovakia U21 1-0 England U21

Slovakia are happy to take a 1-0 win. It's going to be attack against defence. Good move from England though, John Swift a bit slow to move the ball on to his left but he does find Nathan Redmond, who shoots and it's well saved.

Actually it's basically still a back four with Jacob Murphy at right-back. Perhaps he can put in a cross which doesn't hit the first man?

No noticeable change in urgency from England so far.

We think it will be three at the back for England now. Away they go!

England make a half-time change. Right-back Mason Holgate comes off, winger Jacob Murphy on. A change of shape again?

    The inquest has already started....

Alexander Turner: They will be accused of lacking passion, but our footballers need less fire in their bellies and much more ice in their veins.

Mike Green: Have watched @FA, external trained coaches do fancy drills around cones but come to grassroots/ youth games it's all back to kick and run

A draw may be enough for England to make the semi-finals, depending on a heap of other results. But realistically they have to win in Kielce this afternoon.

They have 45 minutes to turn it around. Over to you Aidy and co...

Former U21 manager Stuart Pearce wants Demarai Gray and Will Hughes on at half-time. Worth a punt?

England had 60% possession in that first half. They didn't do much with it though did they? That's being kind.

It's not looking good for England in what is effectively a must-win contest and they'll be going out on the evidence of the first 45 minutes.

They have lacked penetration and once again struggled with creativity.

England need inspiration in the second half because Slovakia look compact and at no point have been stretched.

A James Ward-Prowse free-kick may just be England's best chance of scoring in the tournament. He bends another on target but Adrian Chovan is able to push it over the top.

England's delivery from out wide has been hopeless in a game and a half. Mason Holgate is the guilty party again as a promising position is wasted.

  14. GREAT SAVE!published at 43 mins

    Slovakia U21 1-0 England U21

Decent effort! Slovakia attack for the first time in a while, Jaroslav Mihalik sizes one up from 25 yards and hits it well, skidding into the corner but Jordan Pickford deals with it well, pushing it out and away to safety.

maxberlevy: Pundits said lack of service for Abraham not scoring but he isn't in right places when good balls come in, been pretty absent...

alle Kula: U20 and other children's football teams are ok. It's the U21 and senior football where it goes pear shaped. PL at fault.

England's problems are illustrated as they have plenty of passing in midfield, but Slovakia have two banks of four in place and look very unconcerned. Tammy Abraham, the lone striker, then picks the ball up on the right wing nearer the halfway line than the goal.

John Swift is a definite plus point so far. Busy. He wants the ball, drifts into space and tries a curler from 20 yards but he can't quite keep it down.

England work the ball well, into a crossing position but John Swift takes the ball away from Tammy Abraham who was well placed behind him.

Andrew Swain: About time the FA told clubs to release best players. Clubs have 2 much power. FA running scared.

John dunthorne: England Under -21's playing with no attacking verve, unless they find it, they are heading for another embarrassing exit.

I thought it was odd at the time but the fact that England only have one other out-and-out striker in their squad - Cauley Woodrow - looks like a bad call now.

    Two in a 23-man squad?

An Icelandic hand clap is ringing around the stadium now as England struggle. Deja Vu.
