Jacob Murphy overlaps Mason Holgate and hammers in a low cross - well cleared though. England look dangerous - but so does Jordan Pickford!

He juggles a cross and is lucky not to concede, and then plays a pass straight to Radoslaw Murawski 22 yards out. He could ping that first time into the net but he takes a touch and is charged down.

    A let off.

Alfie Mawson is booked for a forceful aerial challenge. At first I thought that would have resulted in the defender missing England's next match but after double checking on Uefa's website, I'm not so sure.

England having a good spell now, the midfield of James Ward-Prowse, Lewis Baker and Will Hughes are keeping things ticking over.

Still only a one-goal lead though. A dangerous game. Tammy Abraham on at some point?

It is a really strange atmosphere. There are times when the crowd goes really quiet and then there is a little resurgence.

We are managing the game well at the moment. We just need to make sure we get Will Hughes and James Ward-Prowse on the ball and drag those two centre halves out a bit.

You'd have a job to hear them, but there are England fans in attendance. I can think of worse England games to go to.

Not many people can say they've seen England reach a semi-final...

We know we have some lovely ability in the players but we just have to be a little safer on the ball.

England through as it stands, and avoiding Spain in the semi-finals.

    Half an hour to go.

Good football, the pressure relieved as England keep it for a long time and then work it out to Mason Holgate on the right. He wins a corner.

It comes through to Lewis Baker, who steadies himself and hits a curler - blocked by a defender. Well played.

A solid showing is only a Poland goal away from a poor tournament. That's knockout football for you. England have not made it out of the group stage since 2009.

Another gem of a free-kick from James Ward-Prowse, I'd go as far as to say that was undefendable. Amazing whip on the ball, it clears everyone and picks out John Swift at the far post, but he can only knee the ball into the side-netting.

    This idea could be expensive....

After the great performance by the under 20s and this solid showing by the under 21s, is it not time to consider central contracts from the FA to stop losing all these young stars to Premier League squad players who then drop down the leagues?

It won't be an easy ride. England are going to have to defend, keep possession of the ball but we have done that so far and hopefully that will continue right through.

A half chance for England on their first attack, John Swift puts the ball into the middle, it is deflected out to captain James Ward-Prowse, but he doesn't want to hit it with his left foot and his shot with the outside of his right is blocked.

A cautious start to the second half from England. Sitting back and soaking up pressure for the whole second half would not be a good strategy. The home crowd remain vociferous in their support of the hosts.

James Ward-Prowse puts another pearler of a free-kick into the area but again it bounces to safety. Any better crosser of a ball from a set-piece in the Premier League?

A reminder then, that as it stands England are going through.

Slovakia are winning in the other game though, so a draw would not be good enough for Aidy Boothroyd's side.

England make a half-time change. On comes Jacob Murphy for Nathan Redmond.

Murphy came on to play at right-back in the last game, now he's on up front. Versatile.

Poland have also made a change as Patryk Lipski comes on. He's a free agent in a massive shop window here.

More managers should have Subbuteo tables in dressing rooms, surely?

That was a really satisfying first-half performance. They showed everything - good quality, excellent quality from set plays but at the other end they have shown a real desire to keep a clean sheet. Aidy Boothroyd and the rest of his staff will be delighted to go in with that performance at half time.

What tends to happen in a situation like this, you end up forgetting what got you into the position you are in and start looking at the clock and wishing time away. They have to keep doing what they are doing the only little criticism I can give is to maybe be a bit more clinical.

Wondering what's happening in the England dressing room right now?

“We’ll have the Subbuteo table there,” Under-21s boss Aidy Boothroyd explained to the FA's Boot Room, external recently. “[It] has become quite popular now because players are quite kinaesthetic and they want to grab hold of things and they want to shift them around.

“We also find the players will talk more when it’s about them in that particular position. We want our players to be empowered and we need to facilitate the discussion in different ways to help our players think and become thinking players.'
