    Scotland 0-0 Spain

Free-kick Spain. Dangerous spot. Central and slightly to the left.

Marta Torrejon swings one towards goal, it's curling but should be simple enough for Gemma Fay to gather...

But the Scotland keeper spills it onto the post and out. Big escape for Scotland.

    Scotland 0-0 Spain

Bit of a choppy start from Scotland, a lot of energy straight out of the traps but already a few loose passes, too.

Anna Signeul tries to calm things down on the sidelines. If her side loses tonight, this will be her final match in charge.

Mark Sampson returns to form with 10 changes, having named an unchanged side for the first time in his England career for the Spain game.

You can understand his motivation, though. There are only three days before a potential quarter-final against France, which he describes as “a challenge, and a bit of shame," and it's the same timescale between the semi-finals and the final.

“It’s a poor decision to only have a two-day turnaround. This is the showcase of our European game and the players should be given at least three days’ recovery time before the final.”

    Here's a reminder of how England line-up:

England XI: Chamberlain, A Scott, Bright, Bassett, Greenwood; Potter, Williams; Carney, Duggan, Christiansen; Parris.

Lovely evening here at the Willem II Stadion as the England players finish their warm-up. Fara Williams, who made her debut against Portugal 16 years and 163 caps ago, is deep in conversation with Casey Stoney as they leave the field.

This is the stadium where former Liverpool captain Sami Hyypia used to ply his trade, but it'll be a small crowd tonight in the capacity 14,500 stadium, which might be small but is perfectly formed.

I think Sunday was a dress rehearsal for the final, I really do (England v Spain).

France haven’t got going yet but they have some wonderful players.

Germany, we know they’ve got pedrigree, but they haven’t really performed here. I think England are right up there.

Spain are a terrific team, and England beat them by two goals to nil, and that was crucial. England – who were very strong in Canada - are 25% better than they were two years ago.

England's record appearance holder Fara Williams will win her 164th cap tonight, facing the side against whom it all began for her.

Here's the Arsenal midfielder's record since her senior international debut v tonight's opponents Portugal, on 24 November, 2001.

  18. Sampson eyeing more historypublished at 19:31 British Summer Time 27 July 2017

England head coach Mark Sampson likes a stat, and he was quick to brief the travelling press pack of the landmarks already chalked up by the Lionesses at Euro 2017, including the record win over Scotland, Jodie Taylor becoming the first English woman to score a hat-trick at a major tournament and Fran Kirby's goal against Spain being the quickest ever goal in a European Championship.

Now England can become the first ever England team - men's or women's - to complete the group stages of a major tournament with a 100% record and without conceding a goal.

Impressive stuff, but we all know that it really counts in the knockout stages.
